I was supposed to hit linda mar with joel today for salmon/stripers but got the call that it was blowing on the outside in linda mar typical fashion.  So I waited as he checked out hmb and got the call that it was a little foggy and decided I would stay close to home.  As I was driving towards berkeley pier I decided that I would go try and launch from treasure island like I'd been planning on doing all summer.

I drove to the east side of the island and found alot of rocks awaiting me there.  I then started to drive north along the shoreline and quickly spotted a rockwall with guys fishing on it.  As I got closer I discovered a  parking lot and a port a potty.  A little further investigating and I saw a windsurf/kayak launch at the base of the small rockwall.  Score!  Saw a guy from alameda rockwall, I think his name is peter, he's always out there going after ghost shrimp.  Said hello and then proceded to ready the tarpon.  As I launced in glassy overcast conditions I saw only 3 boats fishing on the flats due west of the old pier ruins.  Another thing I found is that the end of the pier is only 10 to 15 minutes easy paddle from this launch.

I didn't bring any bait.  I did bring a sabiki rig and my 2 lb test trout setup.  I started trying to make bait in deep water and was getting consistent action on king fish.  All 4 of them were foul hooked.  After unsuccessfully making bait I'd come close to a pb and kind of recognized the guy so I hit him up for bait.  He told me all he had been catching was sand sharks.  So, soon enough, I was in a wfo sand shark bite also.  My biggest one on the day was over 3' long.  I had litterally snagged it's belly and it felt like a hali the whole time.  I was really disappointed :smt011 to see it was a shark.  Great fight though :smt003

Around 10:45 the tide started to come in and with it the wind.   A word of warning, beware the paddle back to the launch if you decide to drift towards the bay bridge.  It was tough.  It took me one hour to go 1 mile back.  All in all it was a good recon mission.  I'm definately gonna go back when the tides are right to do some more fishing out there.  JTF..

Great report we used to fish the rocks behind the dorms on the North side caught quite a few lings there also.

Lot of lings in the Bay?  I used to fish the Marina Green with my Dad when I worked with him.  Live shiner could get you a ling at the end of the jetty.  If you fish the rocks by the GG Bridge near Crissy field you can get an assortment of Rocks and lings. However now it seems fished out.
