13 June – Introduction to Kayak Fishing

Safe and successful kayak fishing requires knowledge of both kayaking and fishing skills. This seminar will cover the full range of basic knowledge necessary for kayak fishing.  We’ll have a team of folks to cover the range of topics including choosing the right boat, safety, clothing, self-rescue, rigging, electronics, anchor systems, kayak transportation and gearing for target species, plus more. Come on out and join the discussion, should be fun and plenty of information sharing for both new folks interested in the sport and veteran kayak anglers.

Please post-up if you will attend the seminar so we can get a rough idea of numbers.  We’ll fire up the grill, BBQ some man-dogs and do it up NCKA potluck style.  CCK will provide the man-dogs and fixings, plates and utensils, and water. Potluck will start at 6:30 and we’ll get the seminar started around 7 PM. Hope to see you there.

This seminar is being offered in conjunction with California Canoe and Kayak’s Paddlefest Event on 15-16 June 2013 at Nimbus Flat on Lake Natoma.  CCK will have their full line-up of kayaks available for demo along with representatives from the manufacturers of their gear to provide information. In terms of fishing kayaks, CCK carries Hobie and Jackson kayaks. There will also be a kayak fishing booth set-up on Saturday (6/15) to provide information on kayak rigging and fishing. It’s a great opportunity to demo and compare the various models, or just come out and hangout.

Hey folks - so far I have heard from only 2 people interested in attending.  Since interest in the "Intro to kayak fishing" title seems to have gone over like a fart in church.........we're shifting emphasis to "Kayak Rigging" and safety.

Jeff from CCK will lead a discussion on water temps and appropriate clothing options and we have a special guest speaker lined-up to share his knowledge and experience as one of the most innovative kayak rigging pioneers with anchor systems and down-riggers, among other innovations.  The heat wave has passed and it should be a nice evening for a BBQ and to hangout and talk kayak rigging and fishing.

Please post-up or PM if you are planning to attend.  If we don't get 10 or so folks we'll likely postpone and work these topics into future seminars.  I'll post-up here by Wednesday if we do decide to postpone. Thanks all.

Hey folks - we have decided to postpone this seminar.  Our next seminar is scheduled for 18 July and will focus on kayak fishing for white sea bass. We'll add the kayak rigging topics to that seminar.  Should be fun and informative.  I'll post-up a new thread with info on the 18 July seminar in the next few weeks as we get closer.  Thanks all.
