Hey everyone,

I've heard the reports for years that people catch halibut "out in front of the Harbor" but  none of the reports say how far out.  I'm sure it varies based on lots of factors, but in general how far out do you go?

I know from experience that you don't always have to go deep.  I caught a 15 pounder in the kelp just off of West Cliff and Pelton (surfer statue) but maybe I just got lucky!

I have caught halibut in SC ranging from just outside the surf line to over a 100 FOW.  I generally look for bait balls, or bottom contours as I paddle around.  When in doubt look for a yellow can to the left as you leave the harbor and use that as a starting point.

Thanks e2g,

I'll look for those things as well as other boats when I hear the 'butts start showing up!
