Conditions were windy and nasty getting to the outside but outside was low wind

good news is I didn't drop much lead, bad news is brought home no salmon

threw the ling & rockfish back since we're overloaded with ling right at the moment Little shark of some sort with really bad temperament and 2 big spikes sticking up out of it's back which it was intent on stabbing me with while I struggled to set it free, little bastard

f&g gave me the cordial once over

26 mi troll plus a few getting to the outside, can anybody spell 'fool'?

This season is not for the easily discouraged.  You've had more pay off than the rest of us so they got you out to roll the dice one more time.  Good effort!
Saltwater is the cure for everything that ails us,
sweat, tear or the sea.

26miles?!?  What's your record?  When are you planning on paddling out to the Farralons and back?

Also, are you catching the lings while trolling / mooching?  Are lings becoming pelagic?  Or are you simply in need of a fishfinder?

Dux Reef and the stretch down to Muir are full of lings, just drop whatever you're trolling to the bottom and crank up a few

I used to do it with the flasher/rsk combo when my wife is sick of salmon, the problem there is alot of times the lings grab the flasher

The fbr's work great for it tied up with dbl barbless it's easy to release what you dont want

I e-mailed BFranko about it a few years back but it's really only practical on a kayak

Seabreeze when all those fish are through stuffing themselves with krill on the outside and start moving in it could be an incredible year

Think about it, no commercial pressure, there should be a lot of fat ones coming

A skunk here and there is par for the course, I've caught enough salmon for a couple of lifetimes It's a relief not to have to figure what to do with all that fish

Maybe I should get myself wired up with a ff :smt007

Is animal synonynous with fool?

Thanks for the report, was the shark a spiny dogfish???  The other day while rockfishing with Mooch and others at half moon bay I saw a shark following me about 6' down & behind me on my right.  At first I thought it was a blue shark.  After a little research I've now determined it to be a six gill.

When moving from one reef to another I like to drop my 7" plastic 20' behind me and troll.   Maybe i was about to land a nice one.  I have yet to catch a shark fishing in the ocean, only the bays.

And no, animal isn't synonymous with fool.  Animal means your a wild savage for paddling 26 miles in those conditions for salmon.  :metal jtf..

How long were you out there?  If you troll at 2 mph, that's 13 hours of straight trolling, not to mention the few miles getting in/out?

Launched sometime around 8 and landed around 5 I try to keep my troll around 3mph w the 2lb ball A big part of why I'm out there is to keep fit so I don't do lazy mileage

Here's where the boats are for anyone who'd interested, some boats caught and some didnt but there are definitely fish around

And here's how it looked, you wouldnt know it looking at the inside which was pretty blown out, Muir was whitecaps when I passed in the a.m.

last year I got it up to 6mph behind a commie and hooked up within a few minutes Of course I had the benefit of all that flash he was putting out But for me that pretty much put to rest the myth that you have to troll any particular speed to catch fish

Before my wife pushed the gps on me I'm pretty confident some of my dark to dark days went into the 30's but I'm an old 80-150 mile distance cyclist so mileage isnt all that interesting. I've done some short mileage on the yak that was a lot tougher

I've been sussing out the limits of the offshore thing for when the fish are hanging offshore So gps is maybe good for something anyway Be nice to talk to some of the hardcore sea kayakers

For you guys who can manage to get up early enough and can stay out as long as you like offshore should be a cinch My wife likes me home for dinner

For anyone trying to sort out the options a couple locals I talked to said it's been pretty slow at Dux

I'm packing boxes to move so got to go

ciao
