Thinking of buying the humminbird 386ci unit for my trident 13, does anyone have experience or insight on this unit ? Are there better options? Planning on mounting in the fish finder cubby .any help is greatly appreciated.

I like the bigger screen units so I can see better from my sitting position. I think the 5-7 series mostly have the larger screen. GPS is good to have. I like HB units. Eas to use and have a lot of features.

I just picked up a Humminbird 386ci yesterday at Pacific Outfitters in Eureka. It will be going on my X-factor but I have not installed it yet. I removed the old one (Lowrance 4x) today and am letting the hull dry out completely. It came highly recommended from the salesman  :smt044. It looks like a great unit and has decent reviews. I needed gps, Sorry couldn't be more help.

Have that model on my Prowler 13 and bought everything to mount it on my aluminum boat when I got it. Works great on both boats. I don't have experience with other finders but it seems to work great for me. I wouldn't really like a larger unit on the yak.

Color screen is nice. GPS works great. Sonar has no problem marking kokes or my down rigger weight and the second line stacked above it. No complaints.
And you could hear me screaming a mile away as I was headed out for the door....

I have that same unit, and love it. Simple to use, and it works! Sunlight does not seem to be a problem, and it does not go black when I look at it with my polarized glasses. Very easy on a 12v8ah battery...many hours.
1st Place in a private tournament I did not invite anyone else to be in. (and I barely squeaked out a victory)

Thank you all for your info ! Sounds like it performs how I want it too, always good to order things with a little more confidence.

As other have said, a slightly larger screen allows you to split screen & still have reasonable view (ie the "bigger is better" rule).  Nothing bad to say about the H-Bird units, I'm just a Lowrance guy.  Good warranty & prompt replacement (Al even got them to replace a unit he dropped).  Sometimes the "service after the sale" is a deciding factor.
