Just got a call that a decent bite started about 3 days ago, about 6 miles from the "mile bouy".

Yesterday's limit was 6 Kings, releasing 3 silvers.  All fish were BIG.  18lb average with one BIG fish going 32lbs.  These fish were all caught on the troll.

I'm at work so I didn't get specifics, but will find out more afterwork.

Chuck,
HELL NO!!!!!!!  I'm tired just thinking about that trip.

I already signed up for the derby, so I'm committed on Sunday.  And next weekend, there is a special "fishing closure" in my household, so I probably won't be out for awhile.  That is, unless I "come down with something"  :smt002

Usually, it's not uncommon for the fish to hang out a while and move up along the bay (aka closer to Moss) or shoot accross to the Soquel Hole.

However, Monterey Bay has been pretty bad year to date.  A few small bites started, but petered out just as fast.  I'm hoping this is the start of something good, and not just a "here today, gone tomorrow".

I'll find out more details tonight when I pick up some fish.  I didn't ask things like how deep, how long to limit, etc.

I talked to a guy at FW who's been fishing down there today, complicates the decision for the week - toss the coin MB or Dux

Dux should be putting out fish like that right now but the silvers are thick as heck

By the way the northside bite is a great mooching bite, the one boat that was doing good had 3 guys mooching and they were hooking up faster than I was

I might even carry along some mooching hooks  Haven't mooched in 6 years

I was waiting to read a report on coastside to confirm.  It's pretty quiet there, but here's a report:

http://www.coastsidefishingclub.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/342510/an/0/page/0#342510

Looks/sounds like they got into the same grade of fish, but didn't quite fare as well in quantity.  I'll post numbers tomorrow, but yesterday's info may be stale by Sat.

As for Sat, I wish I could go, but I got a ton or chores to do.

Joel,
You need to add a GPS to your Vest.  Definitely a good investment.  Its summer time and the fog tends to move in when its hot inland.

Stuart-

thanks for the headsx up.

I'll keep tabs as well.  If the fish move closer to Moss, I might be able to get out Friday morning.

Sounds like fish are deep

Anyone know about  Indian Head Beach or Marina State Beach? Either would be a pretty straight shot out to the #s

Blue... I'm just curious.  Why do you prefer trolling versus mooching for salmon?

Here's yesterday's info:

Fishing is pretty decent, but the fleet on the outside was a little slow.  Friend got a call to move to the inside 43/53 ish, 240ft depth.  The fleet was in 300ft+.
All fish caught on the troll 120-130ft down.  All on a watermelon Apex behind a 0 Dodger.
Water was good, very kayakable, but a little foggy.  Both boats limited, but forgot to ask the time.  Sounded like a steady pick.

This area is EXACTLY 6 miles from the buoy outside the jaws, per the GPS.

I think he said it was 8-9 degrees on the compass heading in, so that would be 188-189 degree heading if you don't have a gps.  I'd check this out first, just to be certain.

I'll try to get an update on Fri PM if you guys want.

Blue, Marina State Beach (right down the road from my house) is almost never launchable.  Steep and rough beach.  Ed and Jim tried it a month ago on a very modest swell day and couldn't punch through.

I love mooching I just did it for so many years I needed a change

and speaking of so many years it gets harder to stay in shape, trolling 2lbs for 8hrs or so is a good solid workout and there's no deli close by

Those fish are getting dangerously close to Moss, still on the deep side
I might try one of those other beaches

Seabreeze that's a sandy beach?
