I don't know anything about these trucks Nate...but I know you need one that is SUPER safe and sturdy for you and the family so make sure you take that into consideration.

Another thing to consider is the service you will get afterwards. I know toyota corporate is heavily involved in making sure it's dealerships give excellent service and I've seen them back their products. Ive even seen people with over a hundred thousand miles get transmission and engines warrantied.

I have 6 Toyota Tundra's at work, all with about 170k miles on them.  These trucks get the shit beat out of them on a daily basis and have never left any of my employees stranded in the woods.  I have 220k on my 4Runner, guess what I'll be replacing it with (someday!)?

A bit pricier of an initial investment, but you just can't go wrong with a yota.

+1
You also get a lot more back if you ever sell it, the resell price on the toyotas is ridiculously high.

Although the Toyotas are better for resale value, The sheet metal on the Tundras suck. Ive worked on vehicles in the collision industry for over 43 years. This is the lightest sheet metal on a truck I have ever seen. The slightest rear end collision warps the whole bedside. They run great and the interiors are nice. The frames and the suspension is nice too. Only the body is weak. Im talking the new models.

I don't think you can go wrong either way.  My folks have a newer F150 and it's drives really nice.  Toyotas have the edge when it comes to resale.

My advice is go with whatever one your wife likes best.

I might be wrong but the f150 has better milage because its a turbo charged v6 not a v8 right?if that's true you really can't compare milage with a gas guzzler like the tundra.not to tread jack but I never knew about the sheet metal about the tundra ravensblack now that's got me wondering if the Toyota lineups are all going that way

From my personal experience even the American V8 trucks get better millage than the Japanese V6's but the tundra is forcing the big three to all build better trucks.

This is what I was talking about when I was hoping auto industry folks would chime in.  Thanks for the info.

This is interesting because when I closed the door on the Ford, from the corner of my eye, I caught the door flex and wobble after closing it.  I pressed against it and it flexed pretty easily.  I don't know if it's due to the size of the door or the flat design.

2004 Tundra 4x4 double cab owner. Also 2003 Ford. No comparison the Toy is a much nicer vehicle. Mpg is 14/16 with a 4.7l. My friend has a newer 4x4 DC with the 5.7l & mpg is worse. Like 12 average. But u gotta have the 5.7l if you're gonna tow.

Toyota offers the tundra with a 4.7 engine and it tows up to 7,700lbs.  That's adequate for us.  But with a blended MPG of 16 vs the 5.7L MPG of 15, I don't see a reason to get the smaller motor.

You're correct.  The Ford offers a v6 turbo (eco boost) and a v8 as well.  The v6 is the one that has the impressive MPGs, but I've also read that crew cab 4x4 Ford owners aren't getting anywhere near the MPGs claimed on the window sticker.  Read on Edmunds that the intercooler is on national backorder and some have guessed that Ford is having wide spread problems with the turbo.

Are you looking at an extended cab or a four door crew cab? All sheet metal is thinner than used to be to cut down on weight. There is so much plastic used now its not funny. Time will tell on these plastic arts as they loosen with mileage. General motors interior parts used to be the worst. Right now if I was going to buy a truck it would be a GMC with a duramax diesel motor. Crew cab short bed. Solid trucks. Decent mileage and put together really well.

4 door crew cab short bed.  I'm looking for front bench seating but those are available on the "work trucks" with few luxury amenities which are needed to keep wifey and kids happy.

I vote for the Ford. My dad drives a F150 King Ranch and loves it. I drive an F250 Super Duty with 250k miles. I think you will be happy with either I'm just partial to the Fords. Good luck.
