To me it would come down to what you plan on using it for. I tow a camper and a ton of crap when I camp, which is a dozen times a year, so I need torque and max payload. I also understand that gas mileage is going to suck no matter what truck I pick while looking at a V8.

Ford offers a 5.0 V8 that gets 14 city/19 highway with 360 HP and 380 Ft LBS of torque
 Toyota's 5.7 V8 that gets 13 city/ 17 highway with 381 HP and 401 Ft LBS of torque

You can easily increase the Toyota's MPG with a cat back system and a K&N filter to match the smaller Ford motor. So for me the Toyota would win out over the for due to HP and torque (even though the Toyota is $5k more) and resale value.

And BTW I drive a Dodge super-crew with the 5.7 Hemi. I picked the Dodge when I was looking because it had a lifetime drive train warranty (only offered for 2 years). So I'm driving it until it falls apart into a pile of rust.  :smt002

You maybe surprised at how long your dodge lasts, so far both of my dodges have been the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned.

i have never bought a truck based on a bunch of #'s  . it seems to me alot of people buy based on what they grew up with as kids . for me that was fords    .....i still remember the 1950 's station wagon mom would take the 5 kids to rio del mar beach . that being said i still drive ford today for work . f-350 . love it .
so my 2 cents is buy what you want , you know what it is , i am sure you will be happy with either

Although the Toyotas are better for resale value, The sheet metal on the Tundras suck. Ive worked on vehicles in the collision industry for over 43 years. This is the lightest sheet metal on a truck I have ever seen. The slightest rear end collision warps the whole bedside. They run great and the interiors are nice. The frames and the suspension is nice too. Only the body is weak. Im talking the new models.

exactly. a family member has a tundra and thats exactly the case....... made from beer cans.    also had other probs with door handles and trim.   they just dont make toyotas like they used to....   but who does anymore these days?

I drive a 2008 ford at work and a 2001 tundra of my own. I believe the fit, finish, comfort, type and locations of the cab controls on the tundra are better, at least for me.

I have 240k on the yota, it is finally starting to show the wear. I would buy another one in a heartbeat - but I don't want a 5.7L engine or a bigger truck. The 4.7L is fine as is the size.

I would drive both - and a little more than around-the-block to see which fit better.

TOYOTA TUNDRA hands down....ROCK WARRIOR all the way =]
F150 RAPTOR ---- BEAST!

the company i work for has both the f150 and tundra. I favor the tundra just driving but if you're hauling heavy loads in the bed, the f150 is much better...The tundra is just a more reliable and more fun truck to drive. TUNDRA all the way!

Besides drivability of these trucks, can you tell me anything about reliability?  Has either one (brand) been to the shop more than the other?

either one is a solid truck and we havent seen any problems with both and we have the earlier 2005 models and the 2011 models of both trucks. All are running good but if i had to choose one, i'd say i'd go with the tundra still....the tundras sound and run just as smooth as when the cars were new,(compared to the f150). I do construction and these trucks take a beating.

imho i would have to rate the trucks in this order. but thats just my opinion.

1. TUNDRA
2. CHEVY
3. DODGE
4. F150

I have owned two Ford pickups and five Toyota Pickups. Never had the Tundra. None of my Toyota's ever needed anything but maintenance. Damn Fords were in the shop all the time for very expensive repairs. Last one left me on the highway twice. The new F250 at work is a POS too, been back for warranty service twice. Henry can kiss my ass. Never again.  :smt013
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

We have fords Chevys and dodges at work and I'm in construction and we abuse the hell out of are trucks and they all seem to have virtually no problems, and a lot of the guys I work with have Toyota trucks for there personal vehicles and since we're a Gc crew we travel and put a lot of miles on everything so far all the trucks no matter what make are all reliable and equal in my opinion, no matter what brand you chose there is gonna be a lemon among the bunch, I would just chose which ever one fits you the best.

That's true but some manufactures make more "lemons" than the others!

I have been thinking about this choice myself. My problem is that I have an 02 F350 powerstroke diesel that won't die or even start to feel used. I may never get to buy a new truck. My brother has a newer Tundra and my neighbor has the F150 with the Baja package (or something like that). They both like their trucks.
