I'm torn between OK and Hobie.

Looking at the OK Trident 4.7 or a Hobie Outback/PA.

The reasons I like the Hobie are obvious the mirage drive looks a lot easier. Looks better in wind and current, plus the hands free part.

My main use will be lakes, delta, bay, and when the courage permits, the ocean.

I dont troll a lot, but once I have access to more water that may change.

Thoughts?

Hobie forsure, spend the extra money. I'm on my third kayak and will never look back. I picked up the PA14 a month ago and can't ask for more.

I go for the PA if I were you but that's only my opinion.

I guess I missed the "PA" part.  That thing has more deck space than a bass boat!  :smt005  I simply need to have my feet area free of all obstructions (pedals), plus my weak ass could never handle the 110 lb PA.  Have you heard of the Raptor?  :smt002

If you have the 3k for the PA, go that route. If you don't want to spend that much, go with the OK. I have both and think the Hobie is superior in wind and current. But the OK is cool cause it's simple, so peddles to work around, no mirage drive to bang on the bottom, no rudder to drag weeds with. Test both out and decide for yourself. There are tons of guys on here that I'm sure will be more than happy to let you use their boats. Don't just paddle/peddle it around for 10 minutes and think you know. Go out fishing for a day.

I suggest you try out several before you buy.

I was all set to buy a t13 on friday, just before I left to get it someone posted an outback on craigslist for $1200. The wheels started spinning- I now own an outback.

However, I took it out on Saturday and I'm not sure I made the right decision. I have a bad back and the scrambler xt I've been using for 15 years was much better for my back. The hobie is much more out of the water, more like a boat. Rocks more. I think the OKs sit more in the water.the seat wraps around my lower back. Deck space is an issue too.

However, for trolling the Hobie is a dream. Effortless. I'm going to eat and drink a lot more in an Outback. Once you peddle one it's hard to imagine using anything else.

The PA is too big for me.

I went to outback adventures today to demo a t13. They didn't have a demo but they have one on sale for under $900.(orange)

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep my outback. Its like new. I might take it to Berryessa this weekend if you want to check it out.

Hope this helps,

Don

Jeffo is on the money, get a Hobie and an OK. I bet if you go into a shop with 3k (PA) you might be able to get both (maybe demos) and still have money for a ff/gps and rigging. Rig them both with rails and ram stuff so your gear easily goes from one boat to the other. Also purchase an extra transducer for the 2nd boat.

Like Don said, the Hobie is a dream for trolling or hands free fishing, I agree, I own one. I do some surf/snooty launches so that's where a 4.7/4.3 comes in handy, super tuff, fast, clean deck. Good luck! Mike

I have a outback and love it! But if I had to do it all over again I would chose a revo over the outback. The pedals do get in the way at first when your bringing a fish on board but you get use to them and figure out how to work around them.

One thing that is really bad about the hobie is you will have a hard time in kelp and heavy cover if you do that type of fishing. Another thing is if you have knee issue's that's another thing to consider.the pa12 is not that heavy.I can move it around fairly easily. Now the 14 that's another thing

Hobie mirage kayaks come with a well plug and a paddle. Just insert plug into the drive well grab your paddle keep rudder up until out of the kelp. One out insert drive and wave goodbye.
