Is it best to cook and clean, or clean and then cook?

I think it just depends on how much of the crab you like to eat.  Lots of people like the "crab butter" which is lost of you clean them before cooking.  I prefer not to eat the "butter", so cleaning first is best for me.  I don't think either method changes the taste or quality of the meat.  The key is to cook them as close to catch time as possible.

I killed them first, give them a nice scrub to clean off the mud, then steam them whole.  The "butter" is delicious but high in cholesterol!
