Had a few hours today so went out and soaked some dines and chicken livers. Got real lucky and landed 7 fish 2 of which I am quite excited about catching. I didnt think there were any big cats left around other than in the lakes. Im not sure what kind they are and would love some input from my fellow anglers. I need to figure it out so I can enter them for yak wars. Heres a couple of pics, thanks for any help and identification knowledge :)  Oh yea caught 5 others as well all smaller but all on sardines and chiken liver combo

Those appear to be channels. The anal fin is rounded where as on a blue it is square. Nice fish. 31" is a big cat.

You wanna really slay cats, you should try secret-7 by team catfish, it's one of the best baits I've ever used.

Nice channel cats! They seem to run a greenish shade in the Delta.

thanks all!!! After a lot of research, blowing up pictures, counting anal and pectoral fin rays I too believe the large one is a channel. I am still uncertain of the smaller, it has me thinking White catfish. Anything you guys think of that could help me rule Whites out? Other than they dont tend to get that big, remember Ca state record White from William Land Park Pond (I think thats where its from) went 20lb+

Again thanks for all your help. Oh and I launched the yak at the Consumnes river preserve :)

I think I've only caught one white catfish. It was at Clear lake and if I remember right, it had a larger mouth/square type tail vs the smaller mouth/forked tail on a channel. Then again, what I caught could have been a VERY large bullhead of sorts...

Just threw that out there for thoughts.

Upon further review - you're right to question channel vs white. I still would lean channel though. That forked tail looks pretty pointed on the tips. Good luck I.D. ing. By the way, great lake trout photo from Sly. That's a beauty.

I caught a 6# channel cat, my son caught two 4#'s last weekend up in Tracy and they still have spots on the sides.  These look like they are both Whites as I don't see any spots and the channels are more blue/grey.
