4/23 First ever Pac King Salmon (Non yak)

Took a comp day due to me from work.  Called my new aunt and uncle up a couple of weeks ago to see if they were up for salmon fishing, they said yes, but after Taxes.  Cool, a coworker was supposed to come but he called off at thel ast moment, his loss.  Got over to Emeryville and hook with Aunt and Uncle and were on the New Huck Finn.  Went out at 6 AM, head out pas the Golden gate and the bay was calm, sun was out.  We get parrell to the Point Reyes lighthouse leaving GG, and I can see fog off in the distance.  Brrrr, glad were not that way, were heading south...into a different fog bank (wahoo).  We get somewhere near HMB about 10 miles out and the fleet is out there.  We drop about 35-45 feet behind on a slow troll,  a few minutes go by and a triple hook up, but I am not one of them...  Bam I get hit, and I am off to the races, get to the boat and it is undersized salmon , first ever!.  Well, now it is Aunt's turn, shoe scores three over the next hour.  Uncle is coming up short, or is he?  Bam he get to boat a nice one in the 9-10 pound range.  A short while later he scores his second, I get a good hit and think this is the deal, but fish is running towards the stern and causing problems, next thing I know deckhand is taking my rod and going under and over rods and reels like crazy.  The fish jumps it looks like a keeper but no as the deck hand attempts to hand line the fish the line breaks, no fish for Kev.

Well I have series of hits, set hook, reel as best I can only to lose it, (this sucks, but I am having fun).  when bam I get a good hit andthios one stays on.  A healthy 7-8 pounder, I try again and a few minutes later a bam and loss (!@#$%).  Then one more bam and I pull in a barely legal salmon (a keeper is a keeper).  Net on the Day Aunt had 3 keepers and one undersize, Uncle had 3 keepers,  2 keepers and 1 undersized.  The excess were donated to the boat to be given to those less fortunate.   We get back into harbor, and DFG is there to check for farm raised salmon, I lose a head over that, oh ell, in the name of science.

All in it was a great time out, had a good time with my new relatives, caught some salmon, and enjoyed a day off.

Congrats on the salmon squidder. I bet your aunt and uncle had a blast, enjoy your fresh catch. Going out this Saturday out of half moon bay.

Emeyville is half way for both of us to meet up on.  But HMB is closer and you spend less time motoring, and more time fishing on station!  There were a fair amount of boats out there, not sure how they were doing, but I know we did well with everyone getting limits. 

Those 2.5 lb weights are not cheap, if you find them somewhere else cheaper, stock up on them, and save a few bucks.

Thanks squidder, yes those 2.5 weights are going for $7 on the boat. Is that the going price or can I get it somewhere for less? Please let me know. Thanks
