On 4/13 I took my 9 year old son out on his first ever ocean dip at Van Damme. Fully geared up in his 7MM wetsuit, mask, snorkel and fins (without weight belt) he excitedly entered the water. He kicked around faced down in awe breathing through his snorkel with 15 ft. visibility for 35 mins.

We ventured out about 70 yards off shore to a max depth of about 20 ft. I had my Banks Board that he was holding onto most of the time. Every so often he would let go and swim around on his own.

It was extremely cool to see the expression on his face and the anxiousness that he had afterwards about being able to brag about it in school.

When we got back to camp he was so exhausted that he just crashed out on a chair. :smt003

I like to thank Freddie, IslandYak for assisting us on our venture for safety purposes.  :smt006

Antonio, Very cool. The pics with His Big Smile says it all. I truly look forward to his first post of ab and spear.  I bet Freddie enjoyed his Safety assignment being part of your sons new adventure.

Russ,

I will definitely post his 1st ab  :smt003 Freddie was awesome and very patient. I think he was having flashbacks on teaching his daughter.

That's awesome!  Omar has been wanting to get out there with me too but I think I'll first start him out fishing from the kayak and maybe towards the end of the year get him in the water.

I need to buy him a wet suit...where'd you buy your sons?

Thanks
Angel

Angel,

I bought him the mask, snorkel, fins, booties and gloves. I rented the suit and hood from diver dan's for 20 bucks for a week. I didn't want to fork out the money for the suit in case he didn't like the sport. They sell the
suit for about 170 if interested I can give you the link and model. I believe James got one for his son already or is planning to.

Get them out there soon guys...........now I need to get my younger one hooked :smt003
