Noob to the kayak world and yaks in general. Ever since I laid eyes on the Hobie mirage drive I knew I wanted one. Ive been drooling for about 4 years now, the wife gave me the go ahead to pull the trigger on one. We will be going to Demo a few next weekend, after some fishing and im super stoked about being able to have options while fishing and camping on the lakes. Was worried she would be against spending the extra $ on a tandem so I was only looking at the single seaters (we have a young daughter and several nephews) and while I was showing her the different models she looked at me and said "if your gonna spend a ton on money on a single, I know you wont be as happy by yourself out there so just buy a tandem and be done with it." That gives me a ton of more options if I go out and do yak in camping for gear space and weight! Anyway Thought I would introduce myself, we try and make around 10 camping trips a year.

2 singles sounds like a dream! She will want to go off and do her own thing half the time.(selling point) Hopefully it Will be with a bendo  :smt002

Just my cents-I dont think we would have as much fun on a tandem.

Have fun either way and welcome to the madness
I like to have fun.......

Thanks for the advice guys. Idealy I would want two kayaks. Its just hard to find two used hobies for the amount of money I have to spend. Ill keep trolling around for used hobies, but they sell so quick once they are up its gonna be hard to snag a pair. I could however get myself a hobie and another standard style yak as the second. Lost sleep last night thinking about the options!

Do what you feel... Ash and Naoki (sp) Go out tandem and seem happy (and win events too!!!)
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Think about how much the second one will be used, and what you really want to spend on it. My wife only goes out a few times a year, and my main kayak is used 2-3 times a week. You understand what I'm saying?

Hey Bro, my wife and I love going out in our tandem.
She likes it a lot, just not for 8hrs OTW starting at o'dark-30! :smt044
Having someone you love paddling in front while you drop down a pesky trolling set-up really helps. :smt003
