I asked about the cleaning station over at Humboldt Tuna Club and got this reply:

"They were planning on closing it to stop all the fish oil going into the ocean and hurting the pelicans. However pat Oshea (who's leasing the marina) is going to box up all the carcass and sell it as crab bait so the cleaning station will remain open"

Being the owner of two english bulldog/pitbull mixes I can attest to the lethality of their gas... Their ass produces some weapons grade stuff.  That, and their slobber is suitable gear lube for heavy equipment.  If they weren't so cute...

What a ripping account of your first time to the cove. I, too, felt much the same when I first laid eyes on that place. It is an insidious type of affliction that will not go away, ever! Be at peace with it, brother. SRJ

Beautiful Pictures and Great Writing. I can picture (in my minds eye) You and Omar driving through the redwoods with your heads hanging out the windows while the oncoming  motorists were thinking you were enjoying the forest's aroma.
