I'm interested in buying a Yakima Dry Dock rack with one roof rack for my Toyota pickup.  I have a bed cover so the standard bed racks won't work.  Anybody have any experience using this system and is it worth the bother?
Thanks!

I use an "Extend-A-Truck" in back, rather than the Goal Post and it works beautifully. I think it's better, and it's cheaper, too. You can get the same thing from Harbor Freight Tools, too, and save even more.

The only drawback I've found is that you can't tow a trailer while using it.

I have an aluminum headboard attached to the front of the bed, which is made by Rack-It. I recently wanted to carry two sit-on-tops, and discovered that they were too wide, and that neither Yakima nor Thule stacker uprights could be used for carrying the boats on their sides. I contacted Rack-It, and Robert there made me a removeable aluminum stacker for the front which matches the headboard perfectly, and welded brackets onto the Extend-A-Truck and made a stacker for that which looks like it came from the factory. This is also removeable and both work perfectly.

I know you can't use the headboard with your bed cover, but if anyone here wants a good rack for their pickup, I can't praise the Rack-It company highly enough. They make excellent products and do high quality custom work at very reasonable prices.

I put a goal post on the front of my F250 when towing the 5th wheel, and it works GREAT!!! I'm a welder and decided to buy instead of make because of time of our trip. I couldn't be happier with the quality. I'll post some pics as soon as my wife puts pics on computer.

The bed extender design looks good (and cheap$).  I have to look into how to lay the kayak on the cab without damaging it.  Yakima and Thule sell a half roof rack, but its not a cheap option.  I saw some thick foam pads for kayaks too.

This will be a good option when I need to put gear in the bed and carry the kayak.

Thanks for the feedback!

Here is a pic with the Thule goal post. BTW, this set-up is very steady.

I used a Turbo-Rack on the cab of my old pickup and it worked great. I can't use it on my current pickup because the rear window doesn't open to accomodate the strap.

http://www.turbo-rack.com/

You can cover it with a pool noodle, which rolls when you load your boat. Also, you never have to lift your entire boat - just push it up the tailgate until the bow rolls onto the Turbo-Rack, then raise the stern onto the rear crossbar. I like this because I have a rotator cuff issue.

You can remove the Turbo-Rack and stick it in the cab when paddling so it doesn't get stolen.

The first picture I uploaded shows the Turbo-Rack on my current pickup, strapped through the door. It's too far forward to use easily, though.

Thanks for the photos and rack links!  I'm going for the HF extender and roof rack option.  The Yakima Dry dock is a bit overkill for one kayak.  Great info on this forum!
