Yee haw (to quote Randy)......Disregarding Small craft advisories posted through Saturday, Randy and I are going to give Stillwater a try in the AM.

I checked out the possibilities this morning.  Coral street launch was glass.......but the water in front was swells 5-8 feet or so.  The dolphins seemed indifferent.  Otter looked good, Lover's was glass.

But, we want to hit Stillwater.  I scoped it out from Carmel Beach.  Three kayakers were fishing.  I occasionally lost sight of the guy out the furthest, in the kelp about a quarter of a mile south of Pescadero.  I estimated that swell at 3-5 feet.  The guys closer to the northern edge were in 2-3 foot swell?

Since conditions are due to pump up over night we may have to move to plan B.........or even "H/H" (come home and soak in the hot tub)......... :smt002

We'll be at Stillwater 5:45/6'ish.  Company welcome.

Pat

Cool.  I think I'm going to launch at Otters and paddle up to Coral St.  That way if it's too rough I can just stay in the cove and if the outing is cut short then that's a closer/easier spot for me (ok, I am too cheap to pay them $10 just to drive down thier road!  Especially if I might wimp out and go home right away).  Good luck out there.
Fishing is cool

When we wimp out we've always managed to get our money back.

If we do wimp out, we'll see you at Otter's....... :smt006

Son Alex and I decided late yesterday to go out at Stillwater this a.m..  As  we drove past Monterey dunes it looked a little rough, was better over the hill, but colder, windier and bumpier than last Saturday. It didn't look so bad from the beach as it was as we got out a little ways.   Alex is still getting his sea legs, so the moderate bump just out of the cove kept him in, I headed out, 0700 to about 120 ft water off Pesc. Pt, it would have been possible to head out deeper and further, but much too bumpy to be fun.  Drift chute helped.  I got a couple nice verimillions, a two-foot shark and a 6" sanddab before heading closer to the kelp.  Metered many fewer fish than Saturday in the same spots.  Alex broke his cheapo pole on a snag, so we headed in at 1030.  It cleared about noon.  Alex said he saw a red yak out, all I saw was the vertical racks.  L & L were just like Sat., just fewer kayaks and more goose poop.  I might be up for a Saturday go-out but I'll have to check the wind reports.
