Fished New Brighton from Monday June 26 to Thursday June 29.  Caught smoothhound sharks non stop.  I even had a double on once.  Saw about a 5 ft thresher jump at the bouy jost off the capitola pier.  Caught a ton of lings and rockfish that I released.  No halibut love from the kayak.  The funny part is my sister's boyfriend was fishing from the beach with some live kingfish he caught and picked up a 10 lb hali.  We caught live mackeral and jacksmelt and could not find halibut anywhere.  Nice family week at the beach anyway.

lots of kingfish there, I think they are worth using as bait for lings and halibut.

trouble is trying to catch the little 6"ers.

Dave, what are you catching the sharks on, sounds like maybe your choice of bait?

kingish, sardines and  mackeral.  There was a pretty wide open smelt, kingfish and mackeral bite to go along with the shark bite.  I met a power boat guy who said he had fished 10 days in a row without halibut love.  I just hasn't been good for flatties yet.  It should go WFO anytime.

hmm, with kayakjames hooking one @ HMB and mooch @ davenport, you'd think there would be some action in town.

they might be there, there's just so much bait in there they might be stuffed and lolling around the bottom with full stomachs.

I saw some seals just look at me with pained expressions on tuesday, the 'chovies just streaming around them. looked
like me on thanksgiving day afternoon. so full it hurts,  :smt005.

That might be the case.  There was soooo much bait that I'm sure most aggressive fish are stuffed with easy pickings of many different baits.  I was catching blues up north on Sat and most had mouths and stomachs stuffed full of anchovies.

I saw someone launching there in an orange kayak one morning around 8:45... I wonder was that you?  I stopped to see the pod of dolphin and also a bunch of otters.

My daughter likes to take the route along the cliffs to school so we can see the water.
