Craigs recent thread about your sustainable speed got me thinking.  Actually I was thinking about this the other day when I was demoing some  yaks, and was trying to figure out some objective metrics.

What's your max sprint speed and in what kayak?  Even better, get a picture of the GPS showing it (I suspect a still capture from a video may be the way to go here), and post it up.

I once hit 10 mph on the GPS ... of course I had a 4-5 mph current behind me.   :smt002

6 mph in my Hobie Pro angler 14'. I've done this about 5 times on different days and different locations and my top speed is 6mph (over calm lake/ocean water) according to my Lowrance HDS.

I'm pretty sure you can do faster than 5.4.  I'll bet you can touch 7 for a split second!

My Outback is a pig all loaded down, but it can still manage 6ish i think.  Unloaded?  I have no idea.  Of course pedals are cheating.

Record both pedal and paddle sprint speeds.  It will be interesting to see the numbers.

5.6 loaded with gear, no wind. Sustained 4.6-7 no prob for a long time though. If I lighten the load to zero I will report. Also I will report on new 160 when I get FF installed.

Hah!  No!  But another guy in the group was.  I'm sure he hit faster than I did.
