Hello,
I am looking for some advise on Van Damme. I am looking to take the family for my sons birthday and do the Kayak Mendocino tour. Do you have any advise on somewhere reasonable to stay with 8 people? Any suggestions would be great.
Thank you,
Chris

I'm not sure when you're planning on but last year I used VRBO for the first time and got a great deal down in SLO. A downtown cottage that slept 6 for $145.  It was nicer than I expected.  Since then I've spent some time on the site and they've got some good stuff all over CA.

Here's a VRBO searcg focused on Mendocino,

I've heard of another similar site AirBnB, but have never looked at it.

I was surprised and pleased with what I got thru VRBO.

Thank you for the info Dale. We are looking to do the tour and then take our own kayaks back. I have not been to VD since I was a kid.

Your family will enjoy Van Dam. Great kayaking protected waters and cool sea caves. We always camp so not sure where to stay. Alot of cool places in area. Have fun.. Greg

I love Van Damme Park - I have been camping there for the last couple of years during the Mendocino Music Fest - my musician buddies who perform love to come down to Van Damme on their days off and hike around the park on the trails. I always make it a point to stay for 4-5 days and launch my kayak for fishing right off of the beach at the front of the park. It's a small walk to carry your gear from your car to the water, but the launch is really easy and the cove is really protected - no wake/waves, etc. I've paddled out a couple miles and headed north & south from the beach and had great success fishing for rockfish on the bottom - tried dropping crab pots (the ranger mentioned a few commercial boats drop out there), but have yet to catch a rock/dungee crab. Already booked 5 days this June, and I can't wait - one of my favorite Mendo spots!!!
