We are lucky in that most of our lakes/reservoirs are two-story fisheries with trout/salmon and your "normal" bass, crappie sunfish etc. Spreads the pressure around and thus crappie are under the radar in many waters. You will be pleased with the overall size. Takes time to adjust to the overall deeper environment for California reservoir crappies. They do act like regular crappie when you find them though. The Delta and Clear Lake might be similar to Texas crappie fishing with weeds and murkier/shallower water.

Lots of Crappie around here. Some I've caught to 18 inches.  New Meloines is hitting up right now. Lake Hennessy, Lake Sonoma, Clear Lake up this way.  I've filled other peoples coolers are Lake Hennessy - when the bite is on there - it's on.

Can't run more than two rods.  I use flies and jigs. I'm not a bait guy.  Also, have a bass rod handy.  When they start breaking water - there's a big one under 'em and I never fail to stick him/her when that happens.

Good luck. Let me know how the hunt goes.
