EDC,  Every Day Carry.  Today,I started to put together an EDC.  I've purchased a small M.O.L.E. EMT pouch to hold everything.  Today, picked up some items,
*2 waterproof match cases, (1 for P-balls explanation later) the other one won't be used for mataches, I have a floating lighter, and magnesium fire block to start fires.
   *Small signal mirror
   *Small microfiber "Hiking" towel
   *StingEze bug bite medicine
*Small  "Sea to Summit" Waterproof bag

Now, I'm not a hardcore "Prepper" but I think having something like an "EDC" is not a bad idea.  My plan is to load the thing with things I need or use on a daily basis.  Like hand sanitizer, lip balm hand lotion, ETC..
The second waterproof match case I plan to use to hold light fishing tackle, a couple bait holder hooks, maybe 20' or so of 6lb test line, a few 1/4oz split shot a snap swivel or two.
I would normally add a L.E.D. Mini mag (AA cell) to the EDC, but I normally carry one on my belt for work daily, so one won't be added.
The "StingEze" bug bite pen is really good for mosquito bites!  I've used one in the past, lost it somewhere, forgot about it untill today when I saw it on the rack in REI, It'll be added to the EDC.
I'm thinking about adding a few band aids, maybe some neosporin(?) antibiotic for quick access. (I carry an automotive First Aid kit in my truck all the time, but can't reach it while driving.
Found a tiny SOL (Brand name SOL Survive outdoors Longer)signal mirror, this thing is plastic, unbreakable, and I was a little concerned that the mirror part was not going to be a real mirror surface.  It is! The mirror has a protective film on the surface, but the mirror part is layered inside so it can't be scratched.
I still need to get a whistle, and maybe an "Emergency space blanket"
More later, as I add or swap items out.

Knife? Or did I miss that. A few safety pins and some duct tape wrapped around your match case, pen, small pad of paper, bandana

I have one, but some guys call it my "Murse" :smt003.
It's a postmans bag that holds a ton of stuff.
I've got paracord, leatherman, magnesium firestarter, headlamp, various anti-inflammatory meds, binocs, energy bar, water bottle, spare contacts, plus a bunch of other stuff like dog treats, leash, etc. Of course my phone & Ipod.
Enough for me & the dog to make it for a night somewhere until we can rendezvous with the Mrs at our emergency meeting place.

A small case with some aspirin, rolaids, excedrin, benedryl tabs, motrin, water purification, tabs, and anti diarhrea tabs.  Each has a different function.  A small compass, small hand crank radio/light combo device (6 bucks at my local computer store).  Last but not least some TP, because the chances there is a fully stocked out house get slimer the further you get from home!

Saw an article the piqued my intrest in doing this, forgot to add the duct tape, it will be wrapped onto my match cases, (Maybe two 6' length?) I'll add my SOG multi tool, and an old lenstatic compass my dad gave me when I was kid.  Some aspirin, and I still need to get some paracord for it.
I have TP in my truck al the time, however, I've been thinking of what type of items I can use my "FoodSaver" on, and now I think TP would be good.   I can make a small TP sized bag and add about 10' of TP into it, then suck is flat! :smt044  Something to play with when I get back home!

My kit change with what I am doing, but the base kit stays the same.  Here are a few of the things I do:

I like the Ka-bar BK14 knife for EDC.  It is a nice fixed blade, strong yet small and light.  You could baton wood if you needed to, but it is good for cutting and carving.  It gets great reviews on the bushcraft sites.  There are many good knives that can fit the bill.  I prefer small fixed blades but have some good folding butchers/skinners that work well when hunting.

Super glue is great.  I have used to to repair gear and suture wounds in the back country.  I sliced my finger to the bone once and was able to clean and repair it and keep hunting.  I hear that was what it was originally designed for, combat sutures.  Any case it does a great job.

Neosporin is nice, I have also used a concentrated solution of potable aqua tablets to clean wounds, and you can use them to purify water.  A small vial of hand cleaner works well to clean wounds and skin, and can help lift poison oak oils off the skin before washing with soap.

GU energy gel.  I get the ones with caffeine for a sugar/energy boost when needed.  They take up almost no room.  The hard nature valley granola bars are always great.  I like to have a few in my pack.  Longer lasting energy.

I find the fero rods/fire steels are nicer than matches.  I also have a lighter.  Look up how to make fire straws to store tinder, cotton balls with vaseline, pills, ect in.  You can store them behind ranger bands on your bottles and vials.  They are very small for EDC.  I step up my fire kit for backcountry use, and practice making fire bows and hand drills just in case.

I do wrap some thread and needles, medical tape and duct tape around any bottles and vials I have.  The small aspirin vials are nice for storing pills and small gear.

I wrapped my paracord into a donut.  It stores 50 feet in a very small space.

I have Swiss-tech pliers rather than the leatherman.  It is very small but can handle most simple repairs.  It has screw drivers, pliers and wire cutters but is only about 1" folded up.  I use it for making snares, fixing my bow or rifle, as hemostats.  A ranger band stretched around the handle of your leatherman or pliers makes them into a nice pair of vice grips!

I love survival and bushcraft training and research.  I look forward to seeing how your kit progresses!  I have a pretty good one for hunting and backpacking, but scale it down for around town.

Matt

Here's what I have put together so far.
•   1 para cord 50’
•   Duct tape, 2 5’ rolls
•   1 waterproof lighter
•   1 waterproof “Sea to Summit” small bag 5X11”
•   1 Emergency blanket
•   1 Emergency signal mirror, SOL, small
•   1 bag foam ear plugs
•   1 roll signal tape, Orange, 75’
•   1 Emergency whistle, with Thermometer & magnifying lens
•   2 5” green glow sticks
•   1 fiber one snack bar
•   1 REI micro towel
•   1 AAA mini mag (Old bulb type)
•   2 carabineers
•   1 flexible rope saw
•   2 black sharpie markers
     Still missing:
•   Fishing gear
•   Magnesium fire block (In truck )
•   Multi-tool /knife
My small signal mirror is stashed inside the folded emergency blanket that's stuffed in the internal pocket.  By storing the small mirror this way, it's protected from scratching.
The small waterproof lighter is a friggin mini torch!  It has an O-ring seal, that seals both the lighter guts and the cap, and uses butane for fuel.

The rest of the pictures.  The small waterproof bag rolled up and folded nicely.  last shots are back and front shots of pouch closed.
As mentioned previously, I still need to add a knife or multi-tool, maybe stuff some cash in it somewhere, and some minimal fishing tackle & line.

Just purchased this little 1oz flask, to add to the kit, to hold lamp oil for fire starting.

While reminiscing through some old posts I made, I've tried a few things since this post.  I've determined that the magnifying lens on the 4 func. whistle is useless for attempting to start a fire.  So, it's pretty much a splinter chaser now.
The EMT pouch I used for my first EDC is now attached to my Laptop bag (EDC) as a water bottle case.

Thanks for the update!  It's good to know what works and what doesn't as your kit "evolves".  Any thoughts on carrying water purification tabs/drops?

I do have a small bottle of water treatment pills, however, thinking about it now, not sure I'd really use them.  I always have bottles of water with me, and means to make fire, so I would be able to boil water should I run out of the bottles.  Having said that, I won't, not carry the water purification pill.  Maybe use them as last resorts.

Cotton might not be the best material to try and start with a magnifying glass, being white and all.  Try some sawdust or wood shavings? Do you wear glasses Troy?  I wanna try making fire with Sara's glasses sometime, just to see if it can be done.  Well, maybe an old pair just in case  :smt004
