I use "Uncle Larry" lurers that have a small Colorado spinner. And I use a bronze dodger. This works great at Whiskeytown. Go get em super tasting fish and great smoked if you are not C&R.

:smt005 :smt005 I'm laughing right now Steph cuz I would bring so much lures and blades on the water and at the end of the day, only two hoochies will get used. Maybe three colors at the most. :smt003 Kokanee fishing is so much fun.

There are several other brands I've seen as well just can't remember there name.or you could use a small piece of pipe insul or pool noodle

Boy, making an instructional video is harder than it looks  :smt044  Toyed around with the video a bit today, but i'm not very good on camera  :smt005  I'll work on it some more tomorrow.

And the sad thing is that you are right! Only a few would make it!  I think when I get on the water im gonna ear hustle on the radio and see what is working, but then again if its too quiet then that means someone not sharing they secret color .It's total comedy  HAHAHA :smt044

Hi Al! I really would like to see how you tie two snell hooks, I think you might have showed me something like that last year at Albion but I can't remember.  :smt003  I'm going to try and shoot for Berry tommorow through Friday from Pleasure Cove, don't even have the right rod and reel setup yet but it will be nice to get out on the water and wet a line, and get some much needed F and R  :smt004

If you've ever whip finished a fly it's basically the exact same thing as snelling. I imagine one of those whip finish tools might even work. I just do it with my fingers. I used to be real anal about getting the eye of the back hook right in line with the bend of the first hook. I got over that and now I just tie them, if the back hook is a 1/4" behind who cares....
And you could hear me screaming a mile away as I was headed out for the door....

Well, I tried to make a video, thinking it would be super easy! About 50 re-takes later I still didn't have a decent video  :smt044  The way I tie them is so easy, it's probably considered wrong to most guys.  But I swear it works and have caught WSB, Salmon, Halibut and even trout tying them this way. I'll try again for you Steph soon, but I'm sure you will do fine with your selection you have. Start out with Pink, if you have any!

for two snell hooks, i do it the easy way too.

snell one hook, then thread on another one above it, and snell it by wrapping around it at from 7-10 times and run the line back through the reverse side of the hook eye. easy peasy.  not the strongest knot in the world, but they're kokanee for goodness sakes.

Thanks Ben!  That's the way I do it too, but for both hooks, and generally wrap 10-12 times around the hook.  The one trick I use on the first hook is to leave an extra long tag end, and I bite it while cinching down the knot by pulling on the main line.  I then cut the tag long enough that it is just at the bend of the hook. I used to snell another way and it ended up being very painful for my hands.  So far the snell has never failed me, even on big ass fish.

Oh and Steph, i'll be at Berry Friday morning.  Not sure if you will still be there, but i'll have some supplies to show you how it's done.

I just opened a premade hootchie and the leader had to be about 7 inches long! lol..I didn't know they came in that length.  :smt005

Al - I should still be there Friday, not working until Saturday, I'll also be on 68 I think thats the channel, and staying at Pleasure Cove, hoping they have sites.

Out of all the Koke gear I got, I am only bringing a few, don't want to be pulling out my hair, trying to find different colors and combinations on my first time out, I might go loony tunes.  :smt044

Finally found a video so I dont have to make one  :smt044 Same way he does it, except I hold everything in my left hand and work the line with my right:

Using 8lb fluorocarbon, either size 4 or 6 octo hooks (larger for hoochies, smaller for spinners) and your set!

Wow, that's ridiculously simple! I may give that a try, for tying on the water that would be a great way to do it as well. Also for kokanee like was said above you aren't trying to pull a freight train  :smt003

StephL if that 7" leader was on a hootchie you want it that short so it gets yanked around  by the dodger. Same reason I use 10lbs. fluoro for my koke leaders it's stiffer and imparts more action to thel ure.
And you could hear me screaming a mile away as I was headed out for the door....

That 7" leader may be too long in some cases. With a hootchie and dodger you want the hootchie pretty darn close to the dodger for the action. 7" is about right in most cases.
