I want to start my collection of Kokanee Gear and was wondering what colors, and styles yall would recommend. For Hoochies, Dodgers, Hooks, etc.

Thanks!

Hi steph go to rocky mountain tackle they have lots to choose from, one of my favorites is the splatter pink hoochie , it's my number one for berryessa and white for the oroville coho, I'm sure others will share some of their colors too but it's a start.. Maybe we'll see you at bullards bar you'll love it

Hi Jason, thanks for your input. I've been on RMT and Kokanee Mart and they have a really wide range of lures, setups. I think it's pretty nuts that a particular color will work for sometime and then the bite will change onto a whole different color, style. Kokanee are soo picky at times. The fun thing about them, is that they are fun to catch and to eat!  :smt006

You gotta have Pink! My first kok set up ever was a chrome
dodger and a pink wedding ring. Over the years and many lake ever pink has worked everwhere. Uncle larrys Pinky spinner with a wm sidekick has been my favorite combo.

Good luck kokanee fishing!  Colors I always have with me: Pink, Purple, Orange, Green.

With polepole's permission I will be giving an original kayak fishing painting to the person who posts the biggest AOTY kokanee.  Here is one of the previous paintings from the same artist  :smt002

Pink is always a good color because lures are usually a neon pink, which means it shows up at great depth.  At IVR we used to use needlefish in pink and white tipped with white corn behind a chrome seps.  Personally I have come to try and avoid flashers and blades whenever possible (I just prefer less tackle on my line) but for kokes... they seem to be somewhat important despite the fact I have caught them without any of the hoopla... no corn, no flasher.  Like most fish, there are days where they would bite anything... but most days?  Well, not so much.

I don't have a ton of koke fishing experience, but this basic setup has worked for me up at Tahoe in late July the past two years.  Good luck and have fun!   :smt001

Awesome, thanks for your guys input. I just purchased a variety of dodgers , green/pink, silver/green, code blue, Watermelon green and watermelon purple. I mostly went with hoochies that have that spinner thing in Orange, Red, Green, Purple, Pink. So now looking to get out there soon. Thinking I'm gonna try Berryessa. I will post a hookup when I head that way if anyone wants to join me. I got Wed-Fri off from my new job so its gonna rock.

do a search on the forum.  I think Fishworks last year did a very thorough write-up on kokanee fishing tackle primer.  Have fun and hope it ends up with a good hookup.

For koke stuff - I am using Trout Chow Flies and Kokanee Joe - all tied by Darren at 707-889-0677.  Last fall could not keep the kokes off the trout chow - trying to get salmon, bass, and trout (which I did) - but - the flies and the kokanee joes are very deadly.

I'll post a picture of them.  Right now you can only get them from Darren until he gets his web page up.

Here's that picture of the flies and kokanee joe I use ... I have more colors of the koke joe, too. But, this one was handy.  Oh, those colors for the fly ?
Santa Clause, Fireworks, Silver Minow, Prom Date, Pink Bikini, Easter Egg, Snooki.  Those are a few of my favorite colors.

I very seldom use dodgers, but, when I do I use something with UV.  Nice and flashy. I like the SEPS or the Sling Blade.

On hoochies - I like the wiggle hoochies and the spinner hoochies.  Green, Pink, Pink/white, Green/white, white: my favorite colors.
