I snuck out on the Westside last night.

Original plans torpedoed by wife's need to work BOTH saturday and sunday mornings.

Checked out Davenport Landing at 5pm.  One look at 50 cars parked and sailboarders completely flying across the whitecaps told me this was not the right spot.

So, I launched around 5:45 at Mitchell's Cove off West Cliff.

The wind was very light though there was a residual chop on the water.  Wind switched while I was out to a E/SE which was wierd for the drift.

Fished 50-60 FOW. No flatties, but 10-12 schoolie type rockfish, kept 4 decent blues and one gopher for tacos.  Stinger rig with squid or anchovy, 3 ox sliding egg sinker.

Looks like Davenport Landing on Monday morning early will be my next go-out.

Were you fishing the sewer pipe?

My guess is that pipe holds all sorts of fish and I've been meaning to hit it up.

I have no boat right now though....

I will DEFINITELY be headed out on Monday after I drop off my daughter (9:00AM).  The only issue -- will Davenport be too windy by then?  I guess I can always launch out of Capitola if it is...

(added note:  I just got back from cycling down into Capitola village and it's a total zoo.  But the water was dead calm and the swell was pretty low.   I saw a couple of really nice starries come in while I was there and also a keeper striper caught off the pier.  Now I'm thinking I'll just hit Capitola tomorrow since I'll be launching late and pretty strapped for time.)

I fished up around davenport today, 7/2. Went with my friend, Leo, the rocket scientist (really!) and dumbest
smart guy I know. Because Leo can't get up very early we fished in raging wind and whitecaps,  :smt009  :smt010

It was amazing that it was even possible to fish,  the windswell was pretty big.  I put out a drift chute off the
bow and fished some 4oz metal, while riding the roller coasters.  heavier iron would have been better.

I got 3 coppers and Leo had 3 snags and one copper by the time it really got silly.
Leo landed clean, I had to leap off and  swim around
to the stern and hold on for one wave, but no capsizing occurred.

Well, we have had some good fish up that way,
even as clueless as we are and in some questionable conditions, but today that did not happen.
However, no harbourmasters, no paying to park (not even a parking lot), no other kayak fisherpeople,
or fishermen at all. pretty much a nice anti-social surfer outing,  :smt002.

No fishing for me tomorrow (whew!), but I'm planning on some nice calm capitola fishing early on tuesday.
Mol, get your boat ready, I got a few wacky ideas to try out on the kelp.
