Scouting Berryessa for HOW

Been meaning to get up to the West Side of Berryessa to scout out a good place for some upcoming smaller HOW events. We have made contact with a organization that does 4 month intensive programs helping recent returning wounded warriors in Yountville. With everything up in the air with the Failed Penus group, I dropped into every marina,( that was open ), all the stores ( Thanks for tip Raydon   , Judi has it wired!!! ) and met with the Reclamation people today. Everyone is on board and looking to help which is awesome!!!

Everything is up in the air, The Penus thing has kinda put the kabash on a great number of campsites and probably will not be worked out by the summer. That is going to be a hit the local business, but it's going to keep boat traffic down. All day use areas are free, but close at 6 except for Chapel Cove which closes at 10.

There are a couple options for a upcoming event with this new organization that has 6 guys ready to go.  We want to keep this a low key outing with more a emphasis on fishing like a normal hook up. Excellent food will always be the standard of course.

1.We could go to where the Putah Creek resort used to be, day use now and no picnic tables or BQ's, but pretty good fishing up Pope creek...

2.Oak Shores Day use, excellent facilities, picnic tables, BQ's, nice hand launch, some areas off to PB's, don't know how the fishing is here...

3.Chapel Cove...  Parking lot, but has a small area with 2 picnic tables and we could stage kayaks just off the side of the launch ramp, cove looks very fishy with lots of structure, no BQ,

4. Very North end of lake, 200 yard cart of equipment to a rocky shoreline with no facilities other than a bathroom in the large parking lot, but private and fishy...

I'm thinking Chapel Cove or Oak Shores...  Being we are an organization and we want a nice long term relationship with Berryessa,,,,  More paperwork, even for small events, so let me get ducks in a row and will come up with a date, midweek soon.

Were going to take out 6 guys, going for a simple outing with a focus on catching fish...  who is in?


Have to say I was a bit struck when I got into town and saw this Memorial that was just put up...

Looks like the community needs some healing too... 

Oh ya, and there are fish...

 Big Mama's are showing up in the shallows, one big pull on a Brush Hawg, but I think it was just pissed at it, fought me for a while then just let go, hook did not even break through the worm...

I say Oak Shores Don. Fishing is good in the area for trout, Koke, bass. Nice area too.  WHat is your target date?

Second vote for Oak Shores.  I'm in, provided I can get the day off work.

Oak Shores is really nice and the tables are everywhere. Pretty good fishing close to the launch. I would like to participate Don.

it will be a midweek trip, I'll call ya when I get things tightened up...

i think oak shores is the best for vets..not necessarily for us because of the late gates, but most vets won't be there before 8am anyways.  I could be in depending on date.

I'll look for future posts on this and help out as I can. Thanks for leading the charge.
