Is $1200 a good deal?

Is $1200 a good deal for a 2007 hank parker addition kayak? I am looking to get a yak for fishing and hunting and I am wanting to get a great kayak that I plan on having and using for a good while... opinions?

In my opinion no,I'm thinking around 800$ would be a good deal.if I were to dump 1200 ill shell out a little more and get one at least in the double digit year

There are a lot of things to factor into buying a yak. Your size, where you will fish, style of fishing.  It's a decent price if the kayak is in super shape.  I would definitely try a few. I like my trident 15 because it handles the ocean well when I've had the weather change quickly on me. Wish I had the peddles.

Oh, he also says brand new they msrp'd at 1299.  So probably not a "great" deal.

I would say no, not unless it was in brand new condition.  The 2007 models still had issues with the drivewell cracking on them, and if the part that breaks has not been re-inforced, you would need to do it yourself.

Oh, and I had the Hank Parker Edition when I bought my first Outback.  It just came with extra stuff, really not different at all.  And yeah that was the original MSRP back then on the Outback Allen. 

I think the hull design has evolved and improved from the earlier years.  The early outback had a larger center hull which made it tippy if you didn't weigh a lot.

The mirage drive cracking issue was '06 and before.  I know because I bought my Adventure in '07 and they started reinforcing them that year.

As to whether it's a good deal, that depends on the condition of the kayak.

+1 on what Dilbeck said... $1200 is a bit steep, put $500 more and you have whole different animal with better locking mechanism for the drive and other goodies that Hobie has improved upon. The Cam locks suck... and if you did come across a cracked hull, you might be able to get replaced, but you have to find a dealer to work with you.  I would hold out for a newer model or just buy new. You won't regret it...

That is not true.  2007 also had drive cracking issues.  My old Hank died in this way 

$1200 is too much for that old of a boat. I would think $800 or under. A new 2013 outback is $1899 with warrantee and all the updates. Both Lodi and redding headwaters shops are doing a fall swap. Here in redding I'm hoping to get a few used hobies. I've talked to few people looking to sell some pro angler 14's and an adventure, I'm hopefully they will show up for the swap. For $1200 you could get a new Jackson or wilderness, or a used kayak with some gear.

Yeah... the changes and reinforcements came to different models at different times.  All that being said, I am pretty sure it was in '08 that they changed the hull design to the current setup.  Previous to that the outback had that big wide keel that made it tippy.  I honestly don't remember anyone saying anything good about that hull.

Mine's an 08, and it is great.  That is the first year when all the HUGE issues were addressed.  Yeah, it still has the cam locks, but I honestly don't have any issue with them.  My wife's outback is newer, with the quick locks, and I don't really prefer it one way or the other.  Both of them are screwed into the hull in a similar fashion.  The big difference is it is possible to overtighten the cams, damaging your hull.  They only need to be snug...

I didn't have any complaints with the cam locks or its features.  It was an upgrade from a 2006 outback so I was happy with the changes between those years, but the 2008 I purchased had a busted mesh pocket and the previous owner must have cut the rudder line at some point because it was a mess!! One side was too short so it was only able to turn one direction when I first purchased it.  I checked inside the hull to make sure it wasn't tangled or wrapped around something and noticed a sloppy connection in the line which indicated someone had retied the rudder line before.  Eventually had to buy new rudder lines and replace them and was problem free after that.  So considering what some of you guys were saying, I probably overpaid a bit for an 08 model with problems.

All in all, I still loved it, its a great kayak!
