This may sound like a dumb question but winter fishing in a yak;  how do you keep your feet dry and hopefuly warm while launching or retrieving your boat.  I understand the warmer months it really doesn't matter.  All the videos I've seen have you stepping into the water to retrieve or in some cases launch from unimproved areas as well as ramps.  Do you wear waterproof footwear or am I missing somthing.  Thanks  for any info.

It's a water sport, you should expect to get a little wet and cold.  With that said most of us wear a neoprene sock or a neoprene water shoe.

i can't find a picture of the exact shoe I wear but it's similar to this... http://www.teva.com/cherry-bomb-2-kayaking-booties/1000150,default,pd.html?dwvar_1000150_color=BLK&start=10&cgid=men-shoes-water

Kokatat tempest pants, or waders.  I've tried various neoprene socks- didn't work for me.  If i'm otw all day, i like my feet to stay dry. ;-)

Peace & blessings!

Kokatat all the way, you won't be disappointed.Depending on where you are planning on using them I have listed them from least expensive to most below. I have the pants and pair it with a kokatat dry top and absolutley love them. They are well worth the money especially on the cold/wet winter mornings.

Socks-Boots- Pants, most expensive -Drysuit

Hydrus 3L Launch Socks

Nomad Boots

Hydrus 3L Tempest Pants with socks -

I use waders to stay dry. Wear my extra huge Crocs over them to save the feet from wearing through. I will be getting the Tempest pants with socks soon for the salt.

For freshwater, I just go with the waders.  Cheap and effective for winter fishing, but you wouldn't want to take a swim in them.  For the salt the booties work great, but wont beat a pair of wool socks under some drypants/suit.

I like the NRS workboot sole. I use their neoprene boots with their neo socks. Warm and solid for those rocky portages.

Gallon-sized Ziplock bags on your feet w/rubber bands around your ankles.
That will keep your feet dry.

ROFLMAO!!!   :smt044

I use trash bags and duct tape, but same difference right.  :smt003

In all seriousness, I also use Kokatat's Tempest pants.  Bomb proof - minus the "sweat & condensation."
