Who's the hobie dealer in Sonora?
Sierra Adventures right on the main drag.  But they aren't really a kayak shop, and their Arnold store has most of the kayak related stuff.
Well, at least they aren't real expensive to replace.

Never saw that site before!  And I dont think that I saw just the plain shaft availible at ACK. Thanks for the link!  And yeah, it seems to be a reasonable price, and really easy to replace.

I just found that site today looking for the part, but it is pretty sweet... they have every part of the mirage drive for sale individually.  The "crank" as they call it is easy for sure... just the one tension bolt at the bottom.  I don't know how the pedals themselves come off, though I assume they screw in?

Yeap, the guy at the shop showed me a cover plate you pop off, and there is a screw inside.

is the cover plate on the outer edge of the pedal, or the inside edge of the upright?

Those hobies are gonna get someone dead someday :smt044 Glad you didn't cut your leg/foot on the broken stub... (even so... I'd still buy one :smt044 )
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I must say that if I could have found something stronger than the two plastic chopstix I slid inside the shaft, my McGyver fix would have worked  :smt044

Cool... thats what I figured.  Mine is the older type and the inside of the arm has a small plastic plug, but it doesn't look like the kind of thing that is meant to come off.

Its the curse of Lake Don Pedro I tell ya!

That lake is cursed!  I have been there MANY times and never once had a trip that something major didn't break or fail; including blown boat motors, blown car radiators and shredded trailer tires.  No amount of preparation has led to a good trip over there.  It's my Kryptonite!
i bottomed out and lost my downrigger ball once just as the bite for 20 plus inch kokes started to open up...had to paddle all the way across the lake to the launch and back! sorry to hear about your misfortune

... The funny thing is, these misfortunes have lead to the fondest of memories spent with my family.  Though they were unfortunate events, it was time spent with family that I would not have traded for anything!
