Saw a good report on USA fishing that the Jenkins hill area is producing salmon and kokes!  Going to head out tomorrow at sunrise from Flemming Meadows and make my way over to the hill for some trolling.  Will be on 69!

Was a bust... Literally.  :smt009  Arrived and setup the AI all before twilight and launched into the water just as the sky was starting to light up.  Made it about 50ft off the boat ramp when my right pedal broke off.  :smt013  Tried to salvage the trip and make a McGyver repair job at the ramp, but it failed.  Called every dealer from Sonora to Oakland and no one had a replacement part in stock.  Oh well...  hopefully it can be replaced under warranty.

That lake is cursed!  I have been there MANY times and never once had a trip that something major didn't break or fail; including blown boat motors, blown car radiators and shredded trailer tires.  No amount of preparation has led to a good trip over there.  It's my Kryptonite!

Dude... that sucks.  Was it the fatigue break of the armature, or did the peddle itself somehow break?

It was the arm of the peddle that broke, right where the pin goes through the shaft.  I'll post up some pics later.  I've seen at least one other post where this happened to someone on NCKA.  Still waiting to hear back from the shop about the replacement part, but they were 99% sure that Hobie would cover it.  Luckily I still have another mirage drive, so wont keep me off the water at all!  :smt002

I hear ya FFTC!  I was reading your report from last year before I left  :smt044

That lake really pisses me off!  Had problems up there even when we rented a houseboat!  It's the lake I tell ya!  It's got some bad mojo.

Dang Al...the pedal snapped off? That sucks. I wondered if anybody ever broke one. (you know the paddle still works  :smt044)
Speaking of LDP mojo...I just remembered, last time we went there, Dan locked his keys inside his van on the way home...at some crappy gas station outside Turdlock!!

Heh, yeah the paddle still works.  But not really able to be used if you want to take out the whole AI for sailing.  I considered just going for it with the sail only... but there was no way I could assure myself that I could make it back to where I launched from once I got out there a ways.  Was pretty consistant wind in the morning, but has a tendancy to die off around noon.  I instead packed up and looked up the nearest Hobie dealer in Sonora and drove over there to see if they had the part when they opened.  Alas, they did not...

I remember a post about a broken shaft on the mirage drive, so it has happened before.  Really crappy... at least Al has a backup!
