I have ATT DSL service and it comes with McAfee, I don't like it, it seems really invasive and sometimes slows things down especially when it decideds to do a scan at sometime other than I've scheduled it for.

ATT used to supply Norton and it seemed less invasive and didn't seem to slow things down as much.

Of course I'm not all that computer literate and my problems may come from something I'm doing (or not doing)

With all that said I keep it on auto update and haven't had a bug of any kind in several years.

I have used Kaspersky the past couple of years.  It doesn't seem to slow things down like some of the others I have tried.  I tried AVG and it was horrible and required lots of "configuration" just to get it to accept the normal activities on my family network.  The past two years I have managed to get Kaspersky from Fry's with a 100% rebate.  All I had to pay was a few bucks tax and UPS shipping.  It works seamlessly and has caught "bad" stuff before it infected my PCs.

Kaspersky is great... McAfee and Norton are both system hogs that slow things down, and constantly get in the way.  My wife works for a huge insurance broker that obviously has tremendous amounts of sensitive info all over their networks, and they use kaspersky.  We also use it on our personal computers.

I've been using AVAST for the last three years and have not had a single issue. I do periodically run Malwarebytes  just to be secure, but it only is catching benign remnants of other programs.  It's not cpu intensive like many other programs and IMHO its great. It is on two laptops and my desktop.

Available at : WWW.download.com, then it will send you to the CNET site.

Ditch all the others, pay or free, and use the Microsoft Antivirus software.  I'm not one to advocate much of MS products, even though I used to work for them.  But this is really a great, no BS or advertising crap to deal with, free Antivirus and Malware protection.  Never pay for antivirus, and stay the heck away from Mcafee!!!

Thanks for the replies. I have been running kaspersky for the last year it just expired and its a bit pricey IMO. I was extremely happy with it. I ran avg until last year  and was happy with it until I got kaspersky it picked up a ton of things that avg had let in. I have avast on a comp at work it seems to not catch anything. I guess I'll run avg for now and keep an eye on frys.

Thanks al checking on the link now!!

Yep, there isn't any one bulletproof antivirus software, but I've been running AVG free for years with good success, and you can't argue with the price. Not sure about the other versions, but the free version uses minimal PC resources unlike the bloatware Mcafee and Norton.

+ 1 AVG.....and my brother, who has his Masters in IT, uses the free version. Pretty good do far - better than the ones I have used in the past (McAfee and Norton).

I use MS Anti Virus for daily protection; but I run both Spybot and Malwarebytes monthly....
