This summer I am planning on paddling from redding to redbluff or maybe a little lower. Still trying to figure that section of river out.

Pit 7 diversion dam to Jones Valley on Lake Shasta. Could easily make it between 2-4 days. Just depends on how much trolling you want to do. I'm going to do pit 7, day one, then maybe to Arbuckle Flat Campground, second day, then Jones Valley, third day. The species attainable are rainbows, browns, crappie, spots, LMB, SMB, channel cat, bullhead, and sturgeon (and the occasional giant pike minnow). I'm going to do this trip at the end of this month. This was a good day just last year. It's my girl and I's catch just at pit 7. That crawdad in my hand is the average size. I generally get an ice chest full of them too!

I know where I would go after looking at those fish! I have never ventured up that way. Did you come and go from same launches?

I would say the answer to your question would be... it depends on time of year, target species and where you are staying.

You forgot to mention salmon as a target species because there are landlocked salmon in Lake Shasta.

True dat. I forgot about the landlocked kings.  I rarely target them as i would rather have the trout for eating.

If you would like to do this paddle/camp I can set it up. I was hoping that Shasta would come up a little more so that the launch would be in the lake instead of the pit river though. This is determined solely by the lake level. The lake needs to be at least 15 feet from full or thereabouts.

If it looks like the water levels are close I will let you know. I am definitely going to do this trip as soon as water levels are correct.

I'll let you know too Dave!

The Stanislaus from knights Ferry to Oakdale has great boat in camping. The army core of engineers maintains these launches and the are pretty underused until the heat of summer. The river is beautiful and the fishing is fair.

Dan, does Headwaters do any trips down the Stanislaus?  That sounds like an awesome weekend adventure!
