I installed one of those big sailing rudders onto my Revo 13, and took it out on the Delta a couple days ago. Luckily it was flat calm when I was out but I noticed that sometimes I'll be peddling and the rudder will pop up a little, causing my kayak to turn. It's quite a pain, and find that I have to pull on the down cord while hanging onto it. This was a slight probleme with the other rudder but with this rudder it's constant. Kind of scary when you are coming close to a 32+ Foot Marine Research Vessel and then it does that, causing you to almost go into it!  :smt009 Any advice?  :smt006

Do you have the "down" cord pulled all the way out and locked into the cleat?

The only thing that would seem to make sense is that you aren't using the cleat.

I had the same problem and never used  the cleat with the standard rudder.  The small plastic retainer always held the smaller rudder down.  The cleat is not optional with the sailing rudder.

Just had my Revo out for the first time today...glad Headwaters does a great job going through the Hobie checklist...because I am sure I would have missed 10x more. Enjoy! :smt006

Steph, was that RV the "Estuarian"?  I don't know what kind of research they think they are doing, but the massive wake they make tearing up and down the river has to be causing more damage than any good that their research is doing.  They came out of WG marina last summer while I was taking a break on a sand bar and I had to run and swim/launch my yak or the wake would have swamped it.  Glad you realized about the cleat.  Stripers are starting to heat up right  at the mouth of Georgiana slough, yo-zuris, predators, hair raisers, are working.  I wil be back up here on the 16th for the weekend if you want to launch here.

First thing I would do in that situation is grab my paddle!  :smt002

Jeff hi! It was a big blue boat with white lettering, now sure the name I think it started with a B. I see that they have been docked at the Humphreys in Antioch, and go around the area. That sounds nuts about the wakes they were making. I def kept a distance, it looks like its going slow but the wakes are no joke. Now I know about the cleat, I feel a lot better haha. I was starting to think of putting the old rudder back on!  I def want to get on some striper action. If I'm free that weekend I would like to come up and try trolling. :D Thanks!
