It’s been some months since I last actively posted, so I thought that it would be appropriate to reintroduce myself to everyone especially to those new to NCKA and to our family :D My name is Daniel, and fishing has always been a passion of mine. Living in the Monterey Bay for most of my life and having both a father and uncle who loved fishing, I was very fortunate to grow up around fishing all my life.

Before I got into the madness of kayak fishing, shore rockfishing was my thrill. I loved driving down to Carmel/Big Sur, surveying the unforgiving rocky coast, and looking for areas to fish where many do not dare to fish. For several years my buddy Ryan and I would religiously hit the rocks, climbing down 50’-100’ cliffs to the wave-crashing base and fish hard for some of the biggest lings, cabs, and rockies of our lives. Every outing was an adventure of its own!!  :smt003

There were many times while fishing off the rocks that I told myself that if I could somehow get over to that point, or reach those kelp beds just beyond my casting distance, it would be game over for the fishies. If I can catch some really nice fish onshore, imagine what I can catch out there on the water!

That was before I met SinCoast, who I bought my very first yak from and who also told me about NCKA. The madness took over, and life was completely different ever since!! :D NCKA is like no other, and NOTHING comes close to what this community brings day-in, day-out. Through NCKA, I got to know some of the best anglers EVER and more importantly have made lotsa lifelong friendships with many great human beings whom I have much love, admiration and respect for. I am sincerely thankful to NCKA and proud to be part of the NCKA family  :smt001

Like everyone here, fishing is a part of my life. I have enjoyed all types of fishing (including competitive fishing), however I had recently forgotten that fishing is ALWAYS supposed to be fun (even when competing)…. Although it took a couple hookups, a fish n chill and a DOTY ceremony to remind me how fun fishing is, I am looking forward to hooking up and having fun with my brothers (old and new) more this year than I have done in the past :D Thank you all for making my life a better one and for being a big part of my life always!!

Nice comments.  I think our hobby became a lifestyle persuit and regional web sites who are lucky enough, benefit us by creating a community like NCKA.

Great introduction Daniel!!

Dude....I am super proud to call you one of my very good friends. Besides being an EXCELLENT angler, you are one of the nicest guys that I have ever met...

You always go out of your way to help out when you can however you can...when I am faced with a situation I often find myself thinking...what would Daniel Shim do?

So I was fishing for perch the other day at SWS and was catching nothing.  30 feet away Daniel is catching fish after fish.  I asked him his secret and he gave me some shrimp to fish with.  Two minutes later I had a fish.

Thanks Daniel, I'll fish with you any chance I get!
