Another newbie. I recently picked up a kayak unlike others I have seen. Kind of a cross between a kayak and a conoe, called a Jackson Daytripper: http://jacksonkayak.com/jk-kayaks/recreational-touring-kayaks/day-tripper/ . I'm thinking the open area will be good for hauling crab traps and other gear. Anyone else using one of these?
Otherwise, I'm in Placer County, run a pop-up camper on a pickup, and camp a couple of weekends a month. Been shore fishing all this time and really hoping the kayak improves the catch total.

Thanks for the friendly welcome, folks. Snowfighter, I'm just down the road from you in Rocklin. Bought my kayak from a guy at Tahoe and my paddle from a guy in Newcastle. Still need to pick up a PFD before I get started. Too bad we already have plans to go snow shoing this weekend or I would get out for the 70 degree weekend we are about to have. Oh well, soon enough.
