A long time ago I bought a Seeker Inshore rod, spinning, but never bought a reel for it.  I've used it a few times with a casting reel but I found a Bass Pro gift card that someone gave to me a couple of years ago so I figure it's time to pair it with a proper reel.

I'm looking at the Penn Spinfisher V SSV5500. The reviews of it seem to mostly be positive.

I'd mostly be using it for Rockfish and I'd like to take it with me on the Islander trip to take my Calico limit.

What do you all think? Do you have any other reels you'd suggest?

I'm kinda going to spinners for some RF applications and I run the Penn slammers.  They certainly do well but are a little difficult to reassemble for me and leak like sieves. The slammers can be had cheap on e-bay. The ssv seems like and improved version of the slammer and I might buy one just to see how the sealed drag and gasket pan out. The Finnors are great reels too and I have an offshore OFS 20 or 25 but it's a tank at 26oz. The OFS is a really well built reel though with enough drag to easily break 30# mono. The inshores are very nice reels but they do have a graphite rotor. The shimanos all have great reviews but are a bit more pricey for comparative features like metal gears. The penn battle is actually a really nice feeling reel but no idea how they stand the salt. Personally I would avoid okuma because the epixor I had was a total POS with an oval gear that never seemed to go back into proper alignment.

Love the seeker inshores too and really want to build one myself for freshwater.

I have the Battle 8000 but have only used it in freshwater has performed great so far am also in the market for a new spinning. The new spinfisher v 8500 has got my attention. Those reels look solid. And can be found at a good price at this popular auction site.

Penn Slammer and live liner are both good reels but as mentioned a pain to service. The Penn Conquer cost a little more but is easy to service.
