well, me Eric, bob,Pete and randy launch from willow down on the Big Sur coast on sat. 6/24

real foggy 1/2 mile visibility at best...then it would clear up and come back in...but it was real classy with a moderate north flowing current. fishing was pretty slow all day ..... the fish i kept was one vermilion, red (both were 5.5lbs) and a nice big baccico 26 inch...5.5 lb.great fighter. the fish were caught in 90 to 120 feet. everyone easel did about the same one ling went about 8 to 10 lbs.......here are some photo's of the day!! fish on :smt003

oh yes how could a forget the crazy seal attaching me! about 30lbs seal loin just started to crazy on me! hitting my boat, jumping up and snapping at me all the while i am snaged on the bottom...Had to end cutting my line because the seal just would not leave me along for about five minutes....i even gave him some nice soft hit to the body :smt003 i keep my fish in my fish bag!

Steve

Nice catch! haven't seen a Boccaccio like that in a long time.  What do you think the reason for the seals harassing you?

Excellent picture of the boccacio.  I've never seen one in the real before.  Nice take, Steve.

Steve, it is good to see you and your report. Here is mine, since we fished at different locations.

I managed to get away for fishing and decided to hit Willow Creek last minute. The ocean was in lake/glassy condition. However, the fog at Big Sur area was so thick, vis was poor. My GPS was handy.

By time I got there around 7AM there were Steve, Pete and Bob unloading their gears. Bob is kayak fisherman from LA. We started fishing at different rocks and reef in the beginning and Bob joined later. Bob, Nice of meeting you!

Fishing was slow in the early morning. Bites got hot around 10AM. When I was drifting through a nice reef, fish bites get crazy. I was busy with pulling fish and dropping lines. I threw back blues and coppers and managed to land 3 nice vermilions/reds - 20” long and ~5# each. See pictures below. I caught a ling in the middle of water column, I guess, which was hunting blues. Reds were caught around 90-110ft deep.

The wind picked up later and I called off the day. Paddling back was easy, since NW wind was on my back. Landing was scary at Willow creek. Big shore breaks came in sets. Fortunately we managed to land dry. Had great time on the calm ocean.

There is one fish in that trio that is not a red.

I have no clue what it is, but it isn't the same species as the other two fish, its jaw is too short...Copper maybe?
