well I decided I was going to devote a lot of my 2013 season to target the elusive sturgeon. Hooked up twice last night got broke off by a oversized fish right at the boat and landed this 44 inch fish a few minutes later. Released him back into the water and called it quits at midnight. Gotta love how hard those fish can fight.

Gotta love Sturgeon. Off shore? Boat? Kayak? Where were you? What was the tide doing when you were catching fish? How was the bait staying on the hook with the barbless hooks? Any problems? Sorry for all the questions, but if a picture is worth a thousand words, I'm gonna use a couple hundred of those thousand.

I was out of a boat in the napa river fishing the outgoing tide. For bait i was using a single ghost shrimp with a small piece of eel to help hold the bait on. Then lots of thread wrapped around the bait. No problems with the barbless hook as long add you keep good tension on your line. Heading out again Sunday after the game to pull another all nighter. I'll let you know how i do and the only way to get better at anything is to all a lot of questions

Not asking for specifics but is the spot you were in reachable by kayak, say within a mile or so of a launch spot for a yak?

2 Dino hook-ups in 1 night = awesome!  Thanks for the report and picture Vav.

Its about 3 miles from the nearest launch ramp and if you hit the tides wrong it would make for a long day.

Good job being consistently out there. Fighting an oversize sturgeon is definitely one of the better highlights that I can remember in my days of fishing. Nothing makes my testosterone go off more than beating a fish larger than me. I'm glad you guys are getting it on, so far I've been out bank fishing once a week and not a single pump yet. Damn fish have been elusive to me the past couple years :(
