Years ago, I used to collect bullet lead & shot from popular local shooting areas, at the time I filled 5 gal buckets.  At home I used an old propane camp stove outside, and a little smelter pot.  I have, somewhere the molds I used in 1/2 lb and 1 lb size.  What didn't fit in the  molds, I poured into a small coffee can and that made 5 lb (Aprox.) ingots.
Some of the 1/2lb and 1lb ingots I made are in use on my 20" telescope for counter balance.

Hey, if you can make a buck or two salavaging snagged lead weights, good on ya! Your helping to clean up an area, which no one else has thought to do!

When you melt lead all the dirt and crap floats to the top. Just do not breathe the fumes.

Cast my first batch of weights this evening. Took me a little over an hour to cast these six. I'm planning on picking up an extra mold or two and running a much larger batch next time I try this. More molds and bigger batches should make things much more efficient.

Did you say 146...POUNDS? Holy cow. Nice work and Thank You! I could use some additional weights for my divebelt. How much do you want per 4lber?
I've noticed the price of lead (in tackle shops) goes up dramatically at the beginning of salmon season (April). You'd make a killing if you could produce 1-4lb cannonballs and undercut Hayward Fishing Company's ridiculous prices.

This is my 2nd Batch its about 72#. 45 minutes to smelt and 1 hour 15 to do the casting. These weights came out way cleaner. I did them in a single pour each. Most of em are 2-3 oz short of 4# but some are exact and a few are over. I also made 3 little 2#ers. I was thinking I'd sell em for between 1.5 and 2/lb on ebay. But ill sell em for 1.25/lb on the forum if anyone wants them.

Damn $5 for a 4# weight is a hell of deal. I've paid that much for 2# balls. Pours look good too man.

DOTY event? I missed that thread. Is that Dive of the Year? Coincidentally I am planning on diving SWC next weekend. I will also be diving SWC and around Saturday Sunday Monday this weekend.

Btw the search function on tapatalk sucks.
