Looking at some for the gfs car bought a roof rack with a 150# capacity an looking at the j racks because i could fit 2 on the top back to back. Any one had experience with these?

I happen to have 2 Thule "j" racks. Not sure what they're worth but if you could use them make me a descent offer.

i have three pairs of thule Hullavator "J" racks, in box.   :smt044

and yeah, they do work on round (Yakima) or square (Thule or Inno) bars. 

You stated the exact reason why I started with J racks.  they easier to mount/dismount a boat also

Ya i bought a cheapy non drill car rack an found some cheap j rack style to like 60$ for a pair or somethin like that

I use j racks on my Passat wagon. As previously mentioned they are pretty easy to load and unload. That said I do not use them on longer drives much anymore generally just for shuttering to the river or local lakes. If I am having major highway time I lay it upside down on the rack with padding on the rails. The j rack setup catches too much wind.  I took a trip down the 5 to so cal with my j rack last month and the cross winds around Fresno made me feel like the kayak was going to peel off the top of the car. Just not enough confidence in the rack setup I guess. I would be sad to lose the kayak but even more sad for the folks that just had a kayak plow through the windshield...

expect less gas mileage.
