I've been meaning to post this up since I got home a week ago, and am just getting to it now. I just finished a 3 week trip with my brother, riding our Surly Crosschecks from Lima, Peru to Quito, Ecuador. It was a rough trip, but an adventure. If I did it again, I would go round trip out of one of the two cities, to give myself more time to look around and enjoy the surroundings. As it was, we hit the ground running, riding up to 170km per day. In Ecuador, we climbed a 12,700 foot pass, definitely a highlight.

We ate mostly fresh fruit, as it's easy to digest while biking, super cheap, and delicious. It was an adventure, but the lack of fishing and diving had me longing for New Zealand!

Enjoy the pics :)

And the last one, a skeleton we found in the desert by the side of the road...weird.

You can read about the trip on my brother's Smithsonian blog. He's still down there and will be posting a few times a week for the next month or so.

That is awesome...

  What an adventure...

I once rode from Cancun to the edge of Belize, thought I was really doing something till I met this girl who rode from LA to South America. Got hit by a car and spent time in a South American Hospital, and was then riding back...

But she did not have a fishing pole...  :smt003

  Kool trip Bro,

  Thanks for sharing!!!

Tallpaul,  care to chime in on your adventures???

Looks like a swell trip...good for you for having the vision to set out and have an adventure. Danglin gave me an invitation to talk story here, but this is your tale, so I'll tip my hat to you and say...I know what it's like! I was on a motorcycle trip in Baja recently, and crossed paths with some stalwart bike tourists. Had to buy them a beer and a plate of fish tacos, cuz I was on easy street with my hand on the throttle.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

dude, i feel like ironbutt/IAD after only 6 hours sitting in a Hobie.  Scared to even think about the effect of your trip...   Stoked for you, that's pretty cool.  On fruit alone?  insane.  I'd be popping every PED known to mankind just to clear the first day!

I'm sure you have all you need, but before you do any long distance touring like that again, holler at me.  The product manager at Blackburn Design is my pal (I'm currently guinea pigging some of his new trainers coming into the line).  Maybe he'd be interested in hearing you/bro blog about your heavy usage of the products.  I was surprised at the extensive listings in the catalog.

WOW!
105 miles in a day?? You stud!
And all w/o wearing the silly biking outfits too.  :smt044
That's a true adventure with memories that will last you a lifetime.
I had to look up Surly Crosschecks because I didn't know what kind of motorcycle it was.   :smt044
Imagine my awe (and ignorance) when I saw it was a bicycle.
You da man!
