This is a very easy launch.  1-1.5 foot shore break.  It's protected by a rocky reef.

That's exactly where I'd like to be launching/fishing for several weekends this summer and fall....   Both RC (rock cod) and Salmon.  Mostly 1-3 miles N or S along the coast from that point.

I am curious to know, how is the parking situation there - as in how far from the beach can you park, and for how long?

I also wonder, for rockfishing, is there a place nearby you could throw a cast net from for live bait?

I would love to go this weekend (5-7 ft swell, 5-15 kts = nice weather, esp. in early mornings) but I am just getting my very first yak tonight and I kind of don't know how to drive it yet.  So this weekend I will be practicing first in the bay or whatnot.

Hope you slay 'em this weekend - let us know how it goes!

I might be in. I'm debating whether or not to do home improvement up in Auburn this weekend in preparation for the 4th, or stay down here to keep my mom company.

If I'm down here, then either day would be ok, but with my nod going to Sat.

Craig - I've seen you paddle. You'd be fine. Just stow everything for launching and landing. We'd be paddling as a team, so access to the area under the hatch while on the water is no problem. Plus that would make it 4 Scupper Pros going out, if my memory and logic are not faulty. (Mooch, Jnthn, you and I)

sorry for the questions:

what does the coastside dude mean by "very little color, but enough to keep my interest?". the fish?
the water?

What is the expected paddling distance to the fishing grounds? When will you launch? If no 'easy limits'
are obtained, when will you return to the launch?

looks like a good weekend to try salmon or halibut in the ocean somewhere.

saturday looks calm early, sunday a little more wind.
this is a little outside my normal driving range, and my truck might have some radiator issues,
but I am considering trying to join you proven salmon catchers!

Ahha!  Scott busted me!  Okay okay, I will be the little engine that could who did (eh.. huh?)....  I won't have a FF or rodholder til next week, but who needs it mooching for salmon in a group?

I assume we'll be mooching, or "trooching" if needed.  I guess it depends on where we find bait.

While the grade of Kings has been good (20# range), there have also been reported to be a good number of silvers off Duxbury now - it's pretty easy to tell the difference but just giving a heads up on it.

Saturday looks like a good bet.  The fishing grounds are typically anywhere from a half to 2 miles out...  I assume we'd just work it and see where the bait is holding and where the bite is.  You'll see the party and private boat fleet out there too, after around 8am.  Probably 6-packs and private boaters actually, as party boats are still getting good results running to Pt Reyes.

We should know by noon, I'd say.  Bite is usually good from 7am-9am.  But there has been known to be a 2-4pm bite.  Of course, I don't know for sure - I have not checked in with any of the fish this week to see what their schedule is.

South winds - should be comfortable on the water!

I just have a little Mazda car with room for 1 yak - wish i could take others but I am not really equipped.

I am definitely in - Scott, thanks - hope you can back me up (now that you kinda offered!)

Duxbury Reef is off the southern tip of Bolinas.  The water color (too clear) is the color reference.  Use your fav. map site to find Brighton Ave, in Bolinas.  I plan to launch around first light and head about 3 miles to the buoy (37 51', 122 41')  Parking should be ok and you can drive to within 100 yards of the shore, to drop off equipment..

Anita and me will be there, Anita might just hang on the beach and/or in town. We're going to crash in the truck - we've done that there many times, no sweat theres even a disgusting little public bathroom. Smilies is the one and only local bar, great for the night before/ cold ones after. White dodge truck, sunrise malibu two, VHF 69.
Fish-hunter- trust me, this beach is way doable for you, piece of cake, if the conditions are right that is...
