I went to Baja while I was in high school with a group of friends. There was a place that you had to cross a shelf at low tide to get to the beach. There was a palapa on the beach. I wish I knew how to get back there. I believe we paid a family to use the palapa.

i love the thread jack! i need more info about where to go down there.

i just went to one spot and stayed there the entire time as it was so gorgeous and out of the way with no other gringos anywhere (well, a few people 20 minute walk down the beach).

the fish weren't enormous but i caught something nearly every time i went out. and if i didn't catch anything i could go spearfishing or diving for clams anyway...

thanks for the tips,
max

Max, get a chart of Baja waters online....and a few fish and dive books. The Baja Catch by Gene Kayra, and many others. I've always liked the East Cape, starting south of La Paz. I've camped at public and private campsites, and remote beach camping also. Lots of free places on the beachs on the East Cape.
But now with my first kayak, I want to be close to deep water. I will have to figure out the kayak first, then fishing and diving second. I picked up a Hobie Outback,...seems to be a stable ride. Lots of fish to target on the East Cape...Marlin, sailfish, Roosterfish, wahoo, dorado, tuna, lots of reef fish, I am probably forgetting some. Keep me posted if I can help, Ron

Ron,

thanks for the info. I did read The Baja Catch while down there which was great. As well as Hooked On Baja by Tom Gatch. That's good too. Even has a profile of Spike from kayakfishing.com.

Next time i would like to go further south to the east cape. seems nice out there.

Love those pics, takes me back.  Here's one from that same area south of Loretto from about 30 years ago, not much has changed it seems.  East Cape is a fantastic too, the fish just get bigger.  Enjoy your trip.

cool man, when it's not windy kayaking and fishing is the best down there! We just added a 17ft tin boat to the fleet and caught lots of yellowtail and sierra while we were down there.
