Does anyone use one?  If so how long.  I just got through repairing the stern area near the rudder, and wondered how long it will last.  The thought of keel Shield or guard has entered my mind, but they are not exactly cheap at about $25 a foot.  I am curious if anyone is using them, and how your boat handled after you installed it?  Or did some one go cheap and try something else and make it work?

Thanks
Kevin Storm

Be patient some of the folks here used keel gaurds. I would like to install one myself.
I see it as 25.00 a foot. Or 1100.00 for 14 feet. Come on people lets see some pictures of the installs.

If you want to try a sample, KeelEzy will send you a 6 inch sample, not necessarily the color you prefer, however.

+2 Good stuff definitely worth the money.  I started with Gorilla Tape and switched to Keel eazy. Lasts and works better.

I put 3 feet on both the bottom bow and stern underside. Its the red strip.  I didn't bother with the middle part because its flat and has too much area to cover.
Thats gonna get too pricey.

J B Weld.....so simple ...

Update...just in time for salmon/rockfish season.  Well after almost two years of use the J B Weld is/was still going strong. I just finished replacing it on the rear of the kayak after dropping and cracking the coating. The first two pictures are  of the bow and I left it untouched as it's wearing just fine. The third picture is of the newly applied stuff..so simple and almost bullet proof.

How much jb weld did you end up using? I was gonna go that route before, but changed my mind.

How much? I bought the large tubes or you could get a couple smaller ones. The key is in the prep. I rough sand the area to remove any foreign salt or wax. Then I dust it off and rub on alcohol to clean.
Once dry tape off the areas and apply as thick as possible. Just as the material starts to cure remove the tape and feather the edges slightly to take away the rough edge. The best part is the material will stick after curing but is not so permanent that it cant be removed with a putty knife even after a couple years.

PS..I find the standard JB Weld sticks better than the fast cure stuff available.

That keel guard tape you used peeled off completely?

No, it's still there. But I dragged it one time on dirt and it made a hole.
