I just picked up three new TR-102s from Hi's tackle.  They are very light weight traps.  What is the consensus opinion on adding an extra lb or two of lead for drops in 40-50'?  Is it unnecessary or a good idea?

Thanks in advance.

40 to 50 feet not nessisary unless its real ruff. I've got some weighted and some not and in shallow water it dosent make a difference as long as you follow the depth plus 20% line rule
Where did he go george

I run 3-4 pounds in my promars, mainly because as you say, they are light weight.  I got to believe just a little bit of surge can push them around a little, making it harder for crabs to get in.  I do think it make a difference initially, but once you get a few crabs in your pot, their weight holds it down.

Thanks for the input, Allen.  I was leaning toward adding a few lbs just to be sure the traps held fast.

I have the light weight promars also. I'd for sure add weight. I use mine in Tomales Bay in 30 to 50 ft and the pots will walk if you don't add weight. I have 6lbs in mine.
