Just ordered a new Lorance Elite 4 for my new Hobie Pro Angler. Looking at now what to power it with. Are they a place in Sacramento that sales 12v small batterys or should I go with the Battery kit that Hobie sales? I'am very new to this but I'am learning.  :smt001

I dont know if he's using them or not.  But, I gave Craig (ravensblack) 4 of them batterys when he let me try out his OK 15 Trident last yr. if he's not using them, I'm sure he'd give you one.

Or maybe he can find out if Claveys still has the box full that I gave them, ( to hand out to NCKA'er when they when to their shop.)  Maybe he could get one of those and get it to you.  At $16-$22 a piece, dont buy if there are some for free around .

If you mean the battery pack that is listed in this (overpriced) kit:

I wouldn't rec comend it.  You would be buying AA's every other weekend for that thing, and you wont be able to use rechargeable batteries because it's a 8AA battery holder, instead of a 10AA which you would need since rechargeable batteries are only 1.2V instead of 1.5V like alkaline batteries.

I would go with the normal SLA battery type setup, you can purchase from Cabelas with a charger for 33$

Go this route.  Those batteries last a long time and you can power future items like lights or disco balls.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I have a similar battery that was for a trailcam setup, so it came with a really nice weatherproof box that the charger simply plugs into.  It will power my FF for days without any need to recharge.  At least 4 full days of fishing.  That is the longest I have ever used it without charging, it could almost certainly go longer.

Get your battery off amazon.com and do the trial free 2day shipping and set your account to not renew so you dont have to remember 30 days down the line when they can charge you.  Amazon has many sources for 12 volt sealed batteries.  http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002QGVWBW/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new  --only $10.56 + 6.99 sh for a 7ah  you might want to spend a lil more and get 8ah or better.

Then buy one of these chargers  Battery tender jr.  It stops charging your battery when its full so it will last and not overcharge your battery.  The Cabelas charger doesnt do this.  It will save you from buying a new battery anytime soon and you know how much a charge your battery has according to the color of the light indicator.

+1.  Some good advice right there.

For more info on SLA batteries, here's an article I wrote ... http://www.kayakfishingmagazine.net/articles/329-electronics/1538-sla-batteries-demystified.html

+1 on the battery tender charger recommendation. You might consider Batteries Plus for your battery purchase, they have great customer service, competitive pricing and they carry the tender charger too. I have the same ff and had already purchased a Werker brand 12v/9amp battery from them BP. I think it is a bit better better than the same one pictured I had purchased from Cabela's. You can figure about .25 ah (amp hour) draw with the Elite 4, so far I have logged over 27 hours on one charge on the 9ah battery. Good luck, Mike

Adventure Sports in Sac may have some of Fishbuckets batteries left. Just give them a call and ask for the free NCKA batteries. Someone there will know.

Actually most parts stores in your rea wil have the lead-acid sealed batteries for sale. Around 20-25 bucks. Buy locally. I bought a battery and a small trickle charger that has a regulator in it for under 50 bucks. Im still using the first battery after 4 years. Napa Auto Parts. Adventure is out. Carl was trying to get mine. hehehe

Thanks everyone for the info. I have a battery Plus right down the street. I go with the battery and Tender from them. Then its off to Adventure sports for the install. When I bought the PA I got them to throw in the install with the deal.  :smt004

Just for your info, if any of you use AA batteries. There is a you tube video that shows, you can buy a 6 volt lantern battery. Pry the top off I think there were 30 AA batteries in there wired together. But I use a model R/C helicopter battery. It was $$$$, but I can go all day, plus I can charge off my car or truck battery.

If you go with a ten AA power source, these are the best I have found.

I use a LiFePO4 battery for my FF, pricey but light weight. I use the Tenergy AA for my handheld GPS and it will run more than 12 hours.
