Got cornered into a weekend at a friend's cabin up in Dorrington near Arnold.  Figured that most if not all the lakes up there have frosted over quite a bit or have impassable roads and wouldn't make for great fishing (Alpine, Spicer, even White Pines).  So my attention is turning towards New Melones Reservoir, a new place for me.  From what I've been reading, the fishing is good up in the coves and river arms with trouts in the shallows feasting on the shad.  If I'm allowed to go by the captain, I'm thinking about hitting the water mid morning around 9 or 10.

I was looking at Parrots Ferry launch, but looks like that got shut awhile back.  Is the Glory Hole launch the closest towards Angels Camp?  Looking for some veteran advice or some veteran company!

I might be down for a trip to New Melones myself.

Looks like I am good to go, should be at the ramp by 7:30 or 8:00 at the latest.

I'll be driving a green Toyota Yaris with a dark green OK Trident 13.

daleshark knows what it looks like!

Im working on my freedom for a few hours, almost there!

I wouldnt be at ramp until 10ish at the earliest, unless i straight up sneak out, which may happen.  From the glory hole ramp, being unfamiliar with NMR, where would you guys be starting?  Ive heard Carson Cove and Coyote Creek, but cant figure out where exactly those locations are.

Hoping I get out with you all!

Hmmm...  never fished it but I would like to join a hook-up.  I'm a little over an hour away, Placerville area.  I 'see' Glory Hole on a map, a long finger of land on the North shore west of the bridge.  Not sure of where the ramp is, but I suppose it can't be that hard to find?

Anyone got a detailed map that also shows the coves you are speaking of?
If I go, I can be there early but want to be on the road heading home before 4pm.  (I wanna be home before dark)

Just keep driving down the peninsula and it's on the left.  Hard to miss.

Anyone got a detailed map that also shows the coves you are speaking of?

This is as detailed as I could find.  Carson isn't marked on here but it's the first big cove on the left when leaving the launch ramp heading towards HW 49.  In this picture, it is past the second tent.  Hopefully this helps.

Coyoted creek is probably out of the question, it's quite a ways.

OK.  I believe I have clearance Clarence for this fishing fun.  I will post up for sure tomorrow morning.  But it sounds like a buncha folks are going to be there regardless, so that's friggin' awesome!

I've attached a screen capture of New Melones google map.  Is Carson cove "A" or "B" in the map?  I'm going to submit the post and then see if the image posts,....haven't tried uploading an image yet.  Regardless, is Carson Cove big or small, once you launch and turn left?

I'm not planning on bringing a whole lot of gear with me, and simply toplining firetiger and shad rapalas.  I'll have some sinkers, dodgers and junk like that in my box, but haven't had much success trying to figure out how to get much depth without a downrigger, which im resistant to slapping on my Cuda12, as I like to think of her as a bass boat primarily.  My OK13 has a good DR setup, but I've been unsuccessful in every attempt.  So if one a you guys has a DR setup that works, I wanna talk to you!  :smt006

Thanks for the clarification!

DR - I just can't get the hang of it, paddling, deploying the thing, is it working right, where to rig it,....I'm a hot mess.

I'm green lit for Saturday morning.  With any luck I'll be there even earlier, 8-9ish.  Unfortunately promised the group some trout for dinner, which might mean the skunk has already screwed me.   :smt013
