"She" was hot and wanted to go swimming/kayaking, but with Clear Lake starting to get that guacamole dip consistancy, the cool, clean, deep waters of Blue lakes was the obvious choice. Since it was one of those "us" trips I wasnt able to fully concentrate on fishing, but when I did it was fully on. Right in the middle of the afternoon (1-5) and was taking large mouths on every third cast or so. Didnt do the usual troll for trout / cast for bass gig that is so nice at blue (due to my situation), but saw other trout trollers bringing in rainbows fairly often.  When able, I concentrated on my favorite spot, the narrows on the opposite side fo hwy 20 of upper blue. both spinnerbait and the senko took victims, about 10 total.  This lake has a "no wake" rule that keeps it free of jet ski jockey types and the bass boat over compensators, making it ideal for the kayak angler. If those faithful to Mendo are overwhelmed with boaters or the stripers are a no show, blue lake is just a short drive on hwy 20.

Nice catch! Are there campsites available in Blue Lakes?

Getting away from the jetskiers and power boats is always a good thing :smt023

yes there is camping there, as well as a resort on each end of the upper blue lake that have camp sites as well.
Take mid-lakes road, off of hwy 20, and turn right at the end of the street. follow that to the resort that has a ramp as well as multiple places to launch. Cost a few bucks to park there at the resort for day use, but well worth it.

We go there occasionally in the fall and spring and trout fish.  Nice little alternative to excerse every once in a while.

Thanks for the report 'spider. Been meaning to go there on my way to Green, I mean Clear Lake. I might hit it tomorrow...
Hey, did you see bluegills? I've been having a ball using a #6 flyrod and poppers at L. Mendo but the PBs are too many now.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

The Bluegills are there. Ive spotted more along the hwy 20 side.  there is a particularly aggressive bunch of Bluegill at Highland Springs res. that might be worth the drive too.
