Ended up launching near the highschool at 8 am. Went to Central Bait for some shinners but they were closed so we went out and did some jigging.  Nothing , however we went back to the store grabbed about a dozen and got stuck in the minus tide! it was going quick! Made it back out and did the drift at slack tide right at the gap in the wall. Buddy hooked a monster leopard on 15 lb test. We got it to the boat , probably about 5-6 ft. It got spooked and broked the leader like it was butter. Wondered how we would have handled it ..  any suggestions?  So the tide started moving in and there was about 15 boats surrounding us with a yak or two. Ended up catching a 24inch and a 20 butt.  Didnt see many nets swinging out there, but it was pure glass and hot!..  You could have water skied on it up until 2 pm + but we got cooked and bailed.   Cant wait to go back.   :smt004

For the leopard - just grab it by the tail and pull it in the boat. Watch out if it's thrashing its tail and try to keep it from doing a death roll and getting all tangled up in your leader or your net. Leapords usually don't try to bite you, and even if one did it wouldn't hurt much. I stuck my forearm in a 4.5' leopard's mouth once and it just got scratched up a bit and itched a lot. Barely even bled. Leopards and smoothounds (sandsharks) have very small teeth. Like rough sandpaper.

Now - 7-gills, soupfins, and angel sharks are all common in this area too, and they have "real" teeth!

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Thanks! yeah it was a beast!  I was almost thinking about a taser ,, haha.. but the tail sounds like a more practical solution, and then on to a club im guessing.
