Show off your AI rigging! I am still working the layout on my AI. Can I see pics of your rig and how/where you mounted your fishfinder.

I used the aka cross bar mount from Pat R. Works great and there was no drilling.

all I got left to do is mount my ff. I put pats aka scotty mounts on and I got 2 flush mount scottys on the hull. then I scored a set of amish tramps from Mel, so basically all I got left is my fish finder, and maybe a roll bar later

Making some 'Cali-Tramps' this week.  Trying to figure out where I want rod holders and such.  Need to do more research on roll bars.  Post some roll bar pics if you found some.

I think there a couple of factors to decide where to mount the display unit:
1. How much sailing are you going to be doing while fishing? If you are going to be doing a lot of sailing, you want to mount the display in a more protected position.
2. How big is your display and how good are your eyes?
3. How often do you change settings on your FF or log GPS waypoints.
4. Where are your forward rod holders going to be. Yeah you need forward rod holders for C bass.
5. Are you going to use a drop in transducer mount? Where are you going to mount it?

I use small electronics, FF and GPS and mess with them a lot so the mesh pocket install works for me. I recently purchased a Lowrance 4x DSI so switched to a drop in transducer which is removable and stores in the mesh compartment for transport. If I don't like the drop in, I will switch to a rudder mount. The only downside of my install is more holes than Pat R's and my FF gets knocked over when I drag big fish onto the trampoline. The upside is it is more protected from the splash when sailing, easy to see and reach and folds down to a protected location for transport.

I have rod holder on each akas a double rod mount on the left aka to transport two rods under way, a double rod holder on the rear crossbar with two Scotty rocket launcher and the fish finder mount on the front crossbar. I put my batter in the back hatch and installed a compass up front. I have been thinking about flush mounts up front but not yet :smt006.

90% of the time I fish the AI with one ama no sail. Here are my reasons...
1. Most of the time I am not going that far.
2. The full sail package takes more time to transport, set up and clean.
3. The full sail package is more difficult to fish from in some situations.
4. The 1 ama no sail configuration is an extremely stable, fast platform with excellent fishability. Maybe the best big game hunter out there.
5. The 1 ama no sail configuration is better for surf launch, freshwater fishing and rockfishing.
6. Molly hates the sail.

I mounted the PatR double scotty on the rear aka bar upright because I used the push button locking mechanism. I chose this route so it could be locked in straight forward or straight back, however this mounting option will interfere with a haka bench installation. If you think haka benches are in your future, mount them like Pat R.

I fish 4 rods in rod holders plus one sabiki rod for WSB. You want the rods to be in easy reach so you can clear lines rapidly. The 4th rod holder is the scotty rocket launcher mounted on my plano box. The other way to go is a PatR single or double behind the seat on the rear aka bar. I use the port ama because I am right handed and use right handed reels so it is easier to land big fish for me on the starboard side which I keep clean for landing fish and boarding and unboarding. For launch and landing in the 1 ama configuration, I store all rods pointing straight up behind the seat. This makes dock tie offs easier. For salmon trolling, I use the forward starboard scotty flushmount with a scotty rocket launcher facing backwards.

All great info Scott.  I particularly like the info about orientation of the Scotty rod holder mounts in the event of an AKA bench.

Thanks!

Whatever you do DON'T USE THE REAR HOBIE ROD HOLDERS!!! The main sheet of the sail will knock your rod into the water. :smt011

Here's my buddy TailWalk with his aka bench and amish tramps.   This was taken in the ARW during a sail and chill get together last year.  That's mine above his yellow AI.
